I have this problem, too.. I'm always up at crazy hours and I wish I had a normal schedule, but I'm so used to this sleeping pattern. When I try to go to sleep earlier, I end up just laying in bed for hours til my usual time. Smoking helps me fall asleep faster (sometimes), but it still never puts me to bed early enough.
if your trying to change your schedule, I found that instead of trying to sleep earlier, just go to bed your normal late time, and wake up very early, even if you've gotten like just 3 hours of sleep, just force yourself to wake up, then the same night you'll be super tired and go to sleep earlier and your schedule may change..and become less nocturnal, still sometimes it doesnt work and you just fall back into the same pattern.
