Late start of seed in Southern NE

Hey y'all,

I recently found a bag seed in some dispo bud from MA and have it at a seedling.

I am thinking as things flower in my area around mid august I may bring the newborn under a grow light at night do a 24 hour light cycle (night inside day outside) until it gets to veg then just let it flower no topping.

Anyone have experience with this /starting seeds this late in the season?

It can definitely work depending on how late you can leave them out without rotting them. I would get them outside by the end of August though m so they can be done in late October/early November. I live in Ontario Canada mind you.

This plant was grown under a 12/12 schedule from seed. Just leave it outside so it flowers ASAP and doesnt end up needing to be harvested because winter is coming.

Nice big main kola and a few side branches. Im betting 3 ounces.

Yeah....but you specifically said you planned to bring the cutting inside to veg? Not sure what I misread but I was referring to when you said you would then bring it back out to flower. I’m saying if you prolong veg, then you risk rot and mold in late fall as it will need to stay out later.

No, bring it inside at night and bring it outside during the day to maximize hours of light, I started a seed not a clone, idea is to maximize hours of light, I only have a weak double cfl tune in my basement but for a seedling it would be fine. I want it to get as much light as possible for the next two weeks before I leave it outside to flower

So you think just let it run it’s course outside? I’m guessing as soon as it gets 4/6 nodes it’ll just start flowering as we’re close to 12hrs sun a day where I am

Yeah that’s what I thought you were saying which will prolong the veg and you will have to leave it outside later in the year or bring in each night come late fall. I don’t know your climate but most places you really don’t want to prolong veg longer. Where I am ( Ontario Canada ) it goes below zero Celsius at night in mid to late October, so unless I bring plants in every night, i usually have to chop in mid October. Anyway good luck dude.

I was thinking I might make up some time by essentially doubling its daily light, guess that may in the end just delay flowering though - strain dependent I’m usually forced to pull in late sept/ early oct here

Yeah I hear you man. Sounds like you need it to flower ASAP then. I would say just let her do her thing. You could still bring Her inside but you would want to make sure to Bring her back out before night fall. Another trick is to put a little roof over them with clear plastic to keep rain and some morning dew off of them. This will give you an extra couple weeks to fatten the buds up.

I have a sativa dom that I dropped in a pot late. It's barely 2ft and slowly vegging. Based on light cycle, I'll get to 13 hrs of sun in September. If a female, she'll flower out nicely on her own.

Late or early, light cycle will naturally get you to flower when the plant is supposed to get there. I'm in Wisconsin, and I have had snow hit my girls in November. Sometimes nature will let you get away with it.

you have nothing to lose but the seed .... might as well see what it does

I popped these Peyote Zkittlez on July 18th indoors under 18/6 ...I plan to move one or two of them outside into the greenhouse about sept 1 ... I've never done it this late, but I'm curious to see how they perform

The days are already getting short enough to force flower. It will flower when its sexually mature. Meaning had you planted it a month ago, it would have started flowering sooner than it will now because you started it so late it wont be sexually mature for another 3-4 weeks. You could try giving it more light the first couple weeks just to make it grow a little bigger.

That’s what I was taking about - giving it more light during seedling phase by the hybrid in/outdoor combo

Maybe you're just a better person than I (not a very difficult measure to meet), but I have never had that much luck with moving plants in and out. Also I have a (likely crackpot) theory that moving them in and out of sunlight and weak electric light may be a stressor, and bagseeds are usually from plants that went intersex... so adding stress may lead to the dreaded bananas again? I think I'd just leave it out and see what happens.

Hurricane is moving into NE so I’ll bring em in, my thought is light is light, prob a different degree K but nonetheless energy

Light is not just light. You know that, so why tell yourself that??

There is black hole of difference between outdoor light vs indoor light. Even during a storm event. I am of the mindset that environment changes like that only harm a plant via stress. Protect it from the winds, but ride it out.

Yeah nothing wrong with bringing indoor in a hurricane, just try to use the right light spectrum for veg or flower. I move mine in the garage most nights during late flowering.
