Lawyers on NORML are they any good?

I just wanted to ask this question cause I live in a state where it's illegal. I don't have anything to worry about, and I shouldn't have anything to worry about *knock on wood* as it's for me, my mom, and a patient with peripheral neropathy and that's it. I do not have any priors except for speeding tickets:mrgreen: I know this post probally sounds really paranoid (this is my first grow) but I would really like a name of an actual lawyer who will fight for my rights and not some shit public attorney if things go south. BTW I have 5 plants and the max I could have in my room is possibly 8 but that would be a really tight squeeze.

with that clean record and the amount you are growing a good local atty can get you probation..would not worry about it...imo norml lawyers are not as good as a local atty who is playing golf with the judges and d.a. and cuts deals over a steak dinner or the 9th hole...first drug arrest is always a slap on the wrist unless you are cooking meth or moving keys of coke.

Lol everyday man! But seriously I was talking to my friend (my patient with peripheral neropathy) and it turns out she knows a really good lawyer who's local (we never really talked aboutwhat to do if shit hits the fan 5th amendment all the way). Btw I just switched to 12/12 I vegged for a little over 8 weeks can't wait:eyesmoke: Peace y'all hope ur having all a great day as I'm having! :peace:

You say you live in a state where it's illegal and then say you are growing for your mother and a 'patient' and then state you shouldn't have anything to worry about it. The term patient is a legal construct used in compassionate use act states. If there is no compassionate use act in your state then if, and/or when, law enforcement finds you there is no patient. There is merely manufacture with intent to distribute. A conviction for sales/distribution is not merely a slap on the wrist usually. So I encourage you to stop as the repercussions would be life changing for you.

There are many good options. Move to a state which recognizes medical use. Stop growing and lobby in your state for a medical use act etc..... But merely disregarding the laws because other states have different laws and coloring what you do by using terms based in laws in other states won't help your future in your own state. I don't agree with prohibition of any type but I encourage you to move or stop. If nothing else realize the risk you take and stop until, at the very least, no one knows.

Whatever choice you make I wish you the best of luck.

If caught it won't be fun , even with an excellent lawyer I'm sure you will not enjoy the legal process . Be in a legal state with that , protect yourself , and the things you worked hard for . The norml lawyers I talked to did not impress me one bit , wanted lots of money but couldn't tell me anything good . It was dissapointing .

no states should be illegal period...i grew for years in an illegal state and if you are smart and cautious and NOT greedy..you should be fine...i have had a few lawyers spent some time in county (months) but avoided the joint because i am smart, cautious and not greedy...paranoia is not a bad thing..expect the unexpected..but if the things go bad ever get a local atty who knows the game and the players

Thank you guys for all your responses and I've made sure that nobody knows besides the two I've mentioned BTW my "patient" is a very good friend of mine and she wouldn't say ANYTHING I know everybody says don't trust your friends but trust me she would have nothing to gain by talking because my state does have the compassionate laws (if you can get approval from your Dr. all they can do is fine her no more than $100 if that and she does have the approval) my ? was more about me and my grow which is small, I'm using a growlab 80L it looks big but once you put everything in there you are limited by your ground space and your height. I don't want to get greedy at all like I said it's for three of us and nobody else so as long as I get plenty of smoke to split it three ways until the next harvest I'll be super stoked. I am not selling that's why I'm growing so I don't have to visit sketchy dealers that overcharge way too much. I would just like to cover costs of the grow and that's it (as I understand it if you are a caregiver in a legal state and your growing then you just sell enough to your patients to cover costs right? Anyhow I'll just be covering my supplies and electricity use with the "donations" I will NOT be making money just break even.

I hear ya!
Paranoia and preparation can save you a lot of time! The slow hard kind oftime.
:joint:Had I trusted my intuition, and ditched the people that gave me a bad vibe or that made my gut twinge with anxiety :fire:during my dealings with them, then I doubt I would ever even caught my first case. And you're right, it was always greed, or ego that makes me disregard any personal misgivings I was having in my dealings with these people, only to stupidly forge ahead into a filmed and wired :wall: case.
Franklin said “An ounce of prevention saves a pound of cure" or in this case, punishment, and the legal system has long tenticles to keep you in the system a long time if you carelessly take a plea deal of probation. In most states this is just a guarantee, that you'll do a minimum of a year in the local county jail eventually due to a violation, especially if you like to smoke cannabis. Sometimes it's easiest to just do a little time than to take the intrusive urine testing hell that is called probation. It’s easier to stay out, than to get out.
I hate to amit it, but my criminal record is abysmal and long. Nothing violent or sexual, just a long history of drug arrests in many different juristrictions.
By visiting this forum, I was hoping to see if there was any good way to find a local, expert and thorough marijuanna possession and cultivation defense lawyer. That is too say: one that knows drug laws and search and seizure well,n ot necessarily a NORML activist lawyer.

So, I too want to find an excellent local attorney and keep him, and a bondsman, on retainer.
I don’t want to plan on going to jail, but no one ever does.
So does anyone have suggestions on how to find a good lawyer in my area?

what is your area?..if you do not personally know people who have beat big cases and walked then i would ask around at the courthouse ...all the clerks know who the best attorneys are ..they are the ones who get their cases called first..or at the lawyers convenient time and beat cases and get people who are looking at 4 or 5 years to probation or house arrest...money talks..the lawyers who charge more usually use that money to wine and dine judges and d.a.'s..they also contribute to their re election campaign.

Thanks for your insight. You're probably right. I should just go down to the clerk of court and start asking if they have any suggestions, or if they remember any growers getting exceptionally light sentences and who their lawyer was. It beats getting an insider perspective from a so called jail house lawyer, besides the guys in jail are usually the ones with the lame lawyers.
To answer your question: I just moved to Brevard County, FL.
Thanks again.

Hey All,
I know from experience that a good lawyer is better then a public defender. When I got in my little bit of trouble,I chose not to use a local lawyer and ended up hiring 1 I found on norml.I feel he got me a pretty good deal and kept me out of jail.He was expensive but so was jail time I thought.I did some research and talked to several lawyers before I made a choice, always do your research and ask them lots of questions.
I paid mine 2500 bucks and am very happy with his performance.I never really would trust the local lawyers in town they are only after the all mighty dollar and the hell with their clients.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Every case is different and you in the end must make your own choices.
Here's hoping you never have need for a lawyer in your future endeavors.

No I would not do that. Just ask the court clerks who the best criminal defense attorneys are. Do not be more specific than that. Then call the defense attorneys and they'll then refer you if you need referral amongst them. Once you get the phone number of one of the top Criminal Defense attorneys they know who their peers are and they can refer you amongst themselves.
