droopy saggy leaves CAN MEAN ROOT ROT!! look now i now my other plant only has a few days to live.. boy i hope that stuff i ordered comes soon!!! the peroixde is sorta working but maybe its too late? after tonight when the lights are about to go out and the plants go into dark ima change the water with new water without any peroxide in it and a nut and an airstone and PRAY.. ps my dinner last night as well :) the one root that looks sorta white was my origonaly plant which is practicly dead now but i never removed it. looks like the roots arent rotting anymore.. of course they arent growing either the other is my dying plant a pic of the roots and the plant which is now saggy and droopy and about to die... and then of course my dinner mmm

Make sure that no light is getting in to the roots. Seal everything up good . It should help in later grows. (If there was light getting to the roots at all)

any input regarding the color of the stems? I was curious if the color of my stems in the pix is an indicator of bad stuff as well or if that is normal. I looked at other pix in other threads but couldn't realy tell... See the pix on page4. Once those stems started turning that dark almost purpleish color I knew it was bad news then a couple days later the leafs are hanging like there is lead on them..

so i guess using the clear cups arent a good idea uh?...that would let light in. also i pulled the top two fan leaves clipedem at the root at an angle cuz the stems were really purple.. no idea if its a good idea or bad but i did it :)

My plants get purple stems, its no big deal. It is caused by low temps at night or it could be a trait of the strain. The only thing it may cause is a little slower growth. I would not trim off any big fans leaves. If you do not have anything growing in a pod just get some foil tape at home depot and put tape on the top of it and then put the pod back in the AG. I do that to a pod on one end in the back row. I cut a small hole in the foil tape and then run the air hose through it and attach the air stone. That way no light gets in the rez.

yeah, purple stems is cool. unless your trimming or pruning , leave the leaves until they literally fall off. you can stress or shock it more than it might already be. did ya hit up that hydro store yet I told ya bout??

sure enough 3 days after the stems got purple in color the plants practly dead now. i ddint hitup the hydro store since i had ordered 50 bux in stuff from a site online. im gonna really be set for my next grow i have learned a lot this time... just want to research what to use to lower\raise PH in the aerogarden i am sure white vinager is not ideal hehe.. I may get something at the pet store.. or from that hydro store near me who knows. i only pulled 2 fan leaves last night and waited to see what the responce would be here. thought maybe pulling would casue less stress on the plant but wasnt sure because they are afterall.. feeding leaves right. i read somewhere else root rot is not caused by ph as much as by high temp.. my water res is pretty cool id say around 65-75 depending on the time of day but the ph was up at 7.5 and there was light let thru the holes and i didnt change the water. im sure some of that stuff helped to cause the root rot as well.. i guess at this point the plants are dead. I shoulda threw the damn thing in the dirt when i had the chance.. oh well

Cutting off large fan and shade leaves is going to hurt your plant not help it. Plants need all their leaves to produce the maximum amount of chlorophyll and food. Removing leaves slows chlorophyll production, stresses the plant and stunts growth. Remove only dead leaves that are more than 50% damaged. Remove spindly branches and growth that is not collecting light energy, including dead and dying leaves. It is OK to prune the lower 1/3 of your plant to improve air flow and to keep pests, fungus and mildew off of your plants. Root rot fungi cause roots to turn from a healthy white to light brown. As the rot progresses, roots turn dark brown. Leaf chlorosis is followed by wilting of the older leaves on the entire plant, and its growth slows. When sever, rot progresses up to the base of the plant stock, turning it dark. Root rot is most common when roots are deprived of oxygen and stand in un-aerated water, it has nothing to do with the rez temp. The AG is designed to keep the rez between 70-80 degrees. The roots need warmth to grow. Rez temps are critical with DWC but not the AG. The key to preventing and controlling it is cleanliness. Use fresh, sterile medium and clean the rez when changing nutes. Make sure calcium levels are adequate and do not over fertilize with nitrogen. Keep pH levels at 5.8-6 to lower disease occurrence. If you added the air pump and air stone to your rez and keep your pH at 5.8-6 you will not have a problem with root rot again. You can also use Binab, Bio-Fungus, RootSheild, Supresivit, Trichopel, H2O2 to treat it. You can add H2O2 with your nutes if you are using regular non-organic hydroponic nutes to treat and keep the rot under contol. Do Not add H2O2 to your nutes if you are using organic nutes like Foxfarm and SubCulture because it will kill the good microbials. If you are using organics only flush with the H2O2 and pH adjusted water. Buy some General Hydrponics Ph up and down to control the pH or you can use fish aquarium pH and down from the pet store. I check my pH every morning and top off the rez if it needs it with pH adjusted water. I also have a air stone in each of my rez. By doing this i have never had a problem with root rot in my AG's. All i do is check the pH every day and change the nutes on schedule and my plants do very well. I hope this helps.

Ph of 7.5 is way too high. You want to keep it between 5.8 and 6. Ph of 6 max.

Sticky icky icky... ooooooweeeeeeeeeeeeee! spoken like a true expert! I couldnt have copy and pasted better then you wrote it! I had to re-read it like 3 times to really understand! I wish somebody mentioned peroxide a few weeks ago :) I am going to make a trip to this hydro place Jordann told me about to see if they got an air pump and ph up ph down and maybe some other cool stuff. I already ordered a bunch online.. hygrozyme, Florashield, and a pack of subculture... all stuff i probably wont need if i clean the tank more often and watch that pH...the first time i tested it was like off the meter i knew it bas bad.. well more pictures of what can happen when plants get sick...

sticky this bongs for you! hehe *puff puff give* Would you think its a good idea to pinch the buds on my new grow so they dont get to tall. I have the 2 foot aerogarden and even an extra extension cable to get it to extend to 3 footbut want to keep it short and bushy. People were telling me i might want to pinch the top during the start of the grow to keep it like that... Would that be a good idea to try and stunt the growth a little bit and if so any links copy and paste even... or maybe that is bad advice also like clipping the big fan leaves...

so i got my stuff from the hydro place today.. subculture and hygrozyme and that florashield... im wondering if it even makes sense to use it or if i should just... *sigh* killoff the plants and start a new. The one plant is sorta budding and the other one i guess is dead. is there ANY reason to be keeping the plants at all. i have two the whiter root is from the one thats more dead the disgusting nasty root is from the one that is almost budding.. i am trying to debate if i should even use any of this hydro stuff on the old plants or just start using it as a prevent on the new grow.. any advice. also is it not a good idea to use some of that stuff during germination and when to add the hygrozyme and subculture..

Topping your plants will keep them short bushy and will produce 2 colas when you flower them.

Lesson learned, start over... Don't waste time, get some healthy plants going asap! Those plants aren't going to give u anything, they have went thru too much stress, and this is assuming that they survive. Which they prob wont. Thanks for the lesson, I know a few new things about root rot, plus some important reminders.

i want to keep my plants short and bushy im not sure if 2 colas are better then one I think you want just one right? but i guess all that i need to do is during veg pinch the tippy top of the plant every once and a while to stunt the growth.. I was making a list of things I have learned from this first grow..

Altho it is called weed, unlike some weeds it really does need good love and proper care
Changing of the water is a must, I am going to do it weekly after the seeds bud.
Get an Airstone
Must have a fan to circulate the area
Check the pH! thats what killed me I think the first time. I think I want pH around 5.8-6.2
get some hydro goodies to help prevent bad stuff from going (be proactive not reactive!)
Light is BAD for roots
Make sure you have pH up and down and a pH tester
also.. probably should have an airpump keep oxygen in water!!

The colas are the biggest buds on the plant. I would want 2. I use my two AG deluxes to start my seedlings and veg clones and mothers. I actually use a 2x2 ebb and flood tray with a 400w HPS for flowering the clones that i take off of the mothers and i use the SOG method. I would keep the pH between 5.8 and 6 and change the rez according to the feeding schedule that comes with them. Also clean the rez when you change the nutes. Check the pH once a day, top off the rez with pH adjusted water only and keep the nutes aerated with a pump and air stone. Blank off the the pods that you are not growing in with some foil tape and put them back in the AG to keep the light out of the rez. Do not use the clear domes because they will let light into the rez. Light and nutes = alge.

damn. this thread rocks. maybe i can finally convince my boyfriend we need to cover up our rez... the sponges are turning greenish.
