What you think about 2x 50W LED floodlights for Growing 4 plants.
9500 lumens each at 5500 kelvin. They very high quality LED floodlights, not cheap junk.
Plants are in a very bright sunroom but dont get direct sun.
Thought the LED floodlights would help supplement.
Any thoughts? Here is a pic of the plants just for fun.

Got a link? I've tried some of those flood lights and even had one running in a small breeding tent for a while. I also tried some smaller one's (70w) in veg. They tend to generate more heat than most lights as they're typically passively cooled so not the greatest in small spaces. They will grow plants, just not as efficiently as higher end LED's like COBs or the newer QB diode based panels. I put mine away and grabbed some COBs to replace them, they may get used whenever I need additional heat but not up to par, even for veg.

I actually use a small led floodlight for clones and a little veg. It is a 12v and I run it off a computer power supply and a small comp fan running off it as well. Not optimum but was free and fits in my space. If I was buying I would get something else.

Oh dear, i cant post links cause im too new here, well here is a snip of the 50w led floodlight

upload_2018-1-24_19-43-49.png

I have read so much on LEDS and there is some conflicting info.
Are COBs better than SMD led chips? or are your COBS not just higher wattage?

It is a bit confusing, electricity costs is an issue, ideally id like to get the 100w floodlights which output 19000 lumens, I know lumens is not an indicator on how effective it will grow the plant, but its a starting place on quality of LEDs etc.

I cant post this link to youtube, but basically this guy grew tomato plants using a white LED floodlight, it was using the COB though, what really is the difference?

Thes company that manufacturers these flood lights claim 190lumens per watt, they supply them to helicopter pads and shipping ports etc. They are very high quality floodlights.
The passive cooling consists of thermal paste of some sort behind each chip and various other fancy materials so LEDs run very efficiently.
Im still quite set on them I must say...

Had a look and searched through Alibaba and AliExpress but couldn't find anything that looked like those specs or model. It's difficult to say whether SMD or Samsung LMC chips are better or worse than COB based lights. Some nice grows with the Samsung tech around, haven't seen much with the SMD's but they are getting better efficiency with both techs. If their claim of 190lm/w is correct they should do just fine.

Only thing with anything on Ali is trusting that the manufacturer specs are really what they'll ship you. If you can find some references to confirm it may be worth a try.

What are they charging for the 50w panels?

I was looking through ali as well, couldn't find anything close to 190l/w for the smd.
The company, which is in South Africa have some deal with a chip manufacturer that makes them specially for the floodlight company, which is called ledcorp.co.za
Their lights are built and tested in South Africa, which incidentally is where i am.
They have had independent tests run to claim the efficiency and lumens. They charge R1150 per 50w,which equates to about 97USD.
The kelvin rating is 5000k, but is apparently closer to 5500k. I will be using them for supplementing natural indirect sunlight and will also be used for getting seedlings going in a box in late winter.
I was looking at ledcorps website and they sell highbays and floodlights which both use the COB leds but with lower l/w efficiency. And they will be a lot more expensive. Did i mention if the plants respond well to the 50w i will aim to get about 6 of them over the coming months.

They should be fine for veg if they're a good deal. I tried some in veg and they were Ok, but those were only about 100lm/w efficiency and produced too much heat so got some Citizen COBs and really like those. I have some 3500k Citizen and Cree COBs in the flower room, those rock in there. That's where you want decent quality in flower, anything will veg. I used those old blurple panels for years, still running one in a clone tent.

Thanks GroEr sounds like you really know your stuff.
Funny story, i actually grow chillies, the more unusual kinds.
One day on my daily walk at work i spied a tiny bank bag with about 9 seeds in it. Due to my past experiences I immediately knew what they were. I couldn't just leave them there to die, so now i have 4 healthy cannabis plants, no idea what the stain is though. Probably just Swazi. I've so enjoyed growing these ones this year will try my hand with some more exciting strains. And who knows, when is properly legal here can go full on and make a bit of extra cash

Cheers, bag seed grows can find some dank stuff, you never know what you'll find. I've been playing with newer tech since I started indoor and went straight to LED's about 5 years ago now. I've seen the market and tech develop from questionable to now leading edge and have tried pretty well every version of LED's from 3w diodes to the latest COBs. If I were buying today for flowering I'd be looking at the Samsung LM561c LED's as they are legit tech and verified very high efficiency. I haven't used these yet but have seen enough grows with them to trust that they are currently about the best tech out there and high efficiency at very reasonable costs for LED tech. I'll be letting that market develop a bit before I convert to it, it's a hobby but can get expensive changing lights every other year - lol

LED makes so much sense to me,
If im talking South African Rands, heres a good example.

250w HPS at 5500k giving 19000 lumens including ballast and reflecter, R3000
100w floodlight at 5500 giving 19000 lumens R3000
LED less than half the electricity for same initial cost, less heat, longer life span, i just dont see what can go wrong with LEDS, just dont buy junk thats all.
Im really keen to see what my plants do with these quality 50w rated at 9500 lumens. Will post the results. ALthough, its going to take a fresh grow from seed to really see what happens, that will be in a couple of months time in late winter when I start a fresh batch.
Going to try import something more decent. Maybe northern lights, or Durban poison since thats round the corner from me.
Since I dont smoke, gonna have to bake something, or just sell to some hippies, whichever, I just love growing these things, so rewarding, so easy!

For sure, the efficiency is actually reaching that ratio now where it's almost 1/2 the wattage for same coverage. Of course many were claiming that a few years back, but now its almost there. Besides the efficiency, the thing that sold me on the COB tech was the quality of the bud and louder terps, no brainer to me, specially if you're starting up from scratch.

Imagine having a couple street lights for your plants! who would have thought. The lengths we go to to grow plants! the freekin sun is free, just a pitty about all the constraining laws!!!!

Sun i live in the uk dude we don't have the big hot thing that should come out every so often. The street lights are very nice units had a look at one other day in the back of one of the workers vans,He was ok showed me it told him i wanted it for garden.Tight get thought he was gonna give me one ,but no chance.

We have one right out side our house we never had a problem with the Lighting before,But this lighting alot are moaning about them,Think its the blue color,The old ones used to be a yellowish color ,there Bright

Shame man, well I have endless sun, but tight laws, a 60 year old woman up the rd was bust for having 8 plants in her garden. We in the process of legalizing private use, gonna take a year or 2 then can grow and use in the privacy of your own home, cant wait, can use the power of our sun, and its really powerful!! almost too much so, with my chillies outside have to use a greenhouse to dull the sun down a bit. Its quite fun using lights though, out of interest, would you say you use half your monthly salary on a light? Cause here in SA buying power of the RAND is quite bad. Its very difficult to finance hobbies like this.

Well this is them under the new lights, they really bright, only 50w, and i measured them, at about 1 meter away 9500 lumens.
5000 kelvin

Hey @Chreeboh!
Can you tell me how did you measure the lumens?
Thanks.
HI Lvcifer....

With a cellphone, samsung galaxy s6 :P so no, not accurate,,,,,however..
Im fairly confident that they are very close to the manufactures claim, just from what ive seen compared to cheap stuff.
Normally I wouldst trust a word of such claims, however these guys appear to be quite reputable. They supply LED lights at an industry standard to major clients like ports, helicopter pads etc, so no time for bullshit claims,
they would have gotten caught out by now, the big companies buying them must have tested them by now.
