LED Flowering Light vs Veg light for Vegetative Growth * Backstar - NORTHERNleitz

Just a simple side by side comparison of how a flowering light compares to a Veg/Clone light for early growth.

Strain is Dutch Passion Ice S1 Feminized seed. This was a self fertilized plant used to produce the seeds and is as close as you get to a clone in seed form. 3 of these were started and one was culled before flowering.
There is also a re-vegged Northern Lights from a previous grow and a DNA Snowcap in the room.

Lighting is a BlackStar 240 LED flowering fixture with a Northernleitz Veggie Bomb 240 used for comparison. The plants were popped using cfl's until all were established (about a week).

First pic is about 5 days under the LED's

The SnowCap is in the foreground and was started 2 weeks earlier. I literally had to keep it in the shade for much of the veg due to its vigorous growth. I may do an all DNA grow soon. Very impressed as the plant would form roots 1/2" up the stem and sink them into the dirt. Must clone like a champ.
The NL is doing its thing in the rear. It took about 3 weeks to go back into vegatative growth.

This is about 12 days into veg under the LED's. About 18 if you count the time spent under the CFL's.

ProMix with mycoryza if you want to buy the best soil I have ever used. 2.2 liters for $28 @ Lowes.

Starting to see some pronounced elongation under the Flowering LED. Finally brought the SnowCap out of the dark. Still needed to be trimmed down. All plants were topped at this point.

Stretch under the Flowering LED is about 20% more. Development is healthy but definitely more leggy than under the Veg LED.

Height was about 6" taller than the plant grown under the Veggie Bomb. Probably would have been more if not for the topping of the plants.

So in a practical sense if your on a restricted budget using a flowering LED to veg works fine. If you want more compact growth then I would go for a Veg/Clone light. People with height restricted gardens should really consider one. If you have lots of space and powerful flowering lights then its less important.

Overall performance under the LED's was better than my last run. Plants reached 3' in 7 weeks with decent fill out. I am thinking running DNA genetics would cut the veg time to around 5 weeks total. Final harvest in 10 or 11. Almost as fast as a clone room ---> flower room operation.

Feel free to post comments questions. If you cannot post PM me and tell me how to allow that function on RIU.

Stay tuned for my Blackstar vs Bud Bomb Grow-Off.
