I also wonder how wet they keep their soil . I water when dry . Gnats love moisture . And there’s also sticky traps people use for them . But I feel like that’s just to catch them. I know on my outdoor grow , I had gnats and thripes and that neem oil eradicated them .
I believe they keep it moist for microbial life. That way it works right away after planting in it. I'm gonna get sticky traps also for the flyers.

No doubt . I’m just sketch about over watering , so I always wait to water . Maybe that’s why I don’t get them as bad . Interesting theory there .

I thought you were going organic now? If so you want no run-off & keep the soil between a 3-8 wetness out of 10. Also when you let your soil dry out it becomes hydrophobic and makes it so when you Re-saturate you will have dry spots which will cause roots to die. You can use a wetting agent such as Yucca if your soil has dried out too much but I would not go lower than at three if you’re shooting for all organic
Yea definitely no run off, I'm still trying to get the watering schedule down. I have 4 plants, 2 in 3 gal. Pots, 1 in a 1 gal. Pot, 1 in a half gal. Pot. All different watering schedules. It's a PITA. Lol
Lights you have and distance from tops?
At least with dwc, they all get water at the same time. Lol
They're under a sf1000. They were at about 16 inches away from the light. I moved them up to about 20 inches. They're doing better now. At least I think so. Lol

Watering to run off doesn’t change the status of ‘organic’ it would still be considered organic, but your plants would suffer cuz it washes the nutrients away as well as dry spots

I'm getting better at my watering. I do need yucca though. It's kinda hard to know exactly how much water to give.
