LED Lighting..anyone here using it??

been starting to look into this sort of lighting and was wondering if any members have tried this LED duel lighting out yet and how you done useing which lights?

Plants can use nearly all of the light emitted from LED lamps. Only about 10% of the power used and about 35% of the light generated by metal halide lamps is useful for plant growth. is this true???

would like to hear any thoughts members have please :)

I use LEDs, and will never switch back to HID lighting.

They do emit better spectrums that plants actually use compared to other lighting.

As far as them being as good as some of the LED companies say they are, like 90 watts LED = 400 watt HID, that is not true. It's more like 90 watts = 90 watts, but with (much) less heat and no ballasts (which also consumes energy). Really depends on the LED, and the HID. Some are higher and lower quality than others.

There are plenty of crappy LED panels out there, some even as or more expensive than the actual good ones.

Hi dude, I've used the 90W LED UFO's and had moderate success.. although they were accompanied by an Envirolite CFL... However... I have a passion for building Grow-Cabs etc... and have helped a guy called 'Budbaby' on this site.

We built an LED twin cab for Veg & Flower.. and so far his plants are looking pretty damn impressive I'll add a LINK below to his thread.. If you have any questions dont hesitate to ask, I am all ears :).. Here the LINK :-

Its true that LEDs do give the correct spectrum however good growth is achieved with the more expensive LED panals with a higher watt diodes ie 3W+ per LED the 1W ones wont penetrate the canopy well enough.. How many plants do you wish to grow?

Hope the LINK helps :) - STELTHY :leaf:

Agree on the 3 watt diodes. All my panels have 3 watt.

I guess 2 watt are okay, better than 1 watt, but not as good as 3 watt.

Weren't you the guy looking into dual spectrum HID lighting? I remember that thread from a few months ago. Any luck with that? I'm still interested in what those can do.

Yeah man thats me :) I am still researching as I am sure something 'New & Exciting' is just around the corner, at the mo I am settled with a Lumatek Dual, but I'am more interested in the increase in PAR etc.. I will be starting another grow shortly.. I'll be using MH for veg but hope to have found the missing ingredient with the increased PAR bulb by the time I come to flower :) - STELTHY :leaf:

I want to try a CMH light setup. Essentially they are like the dual spectrum, but with just one arc of light instead of 2.

I am a die hard LED user, but am always open to new and better ways of growing.

I also want to check out plasma induction when I can find a unit worth buying.

I'll add a couple of pics of my early LED/CFL grow and Ill add some of Budbaby's pics too :)

Heres a few of mine :-

Lol, sorry thats well more than just a few pics.. and their just mine.. I'll make it worth while and add some of Budbaby's below :-

Oh ... and as if thats not enough :) lol... I forgot.. I made a small LED Stealth Cab, just to use up all my spare stuff that was laying about I'll post just the one pic of that :)

I wouldnt have thought the building of lights would be all that hard...But it would be very time consumming, Budbaby had his custom made, and they are really really bright, hope the pic's have inspired you didnt realise I added so many, anyhow what do you think ? - STELTHY :leaf:

Hi dude, Budbaby's LED panels are 500W a piece if I remember correctly.. although I could be wrong... I'll check shortly :) I would reccomend a 300W BlackStar led unit.. there are a fair few good panals out there but they are expensive Budbaby paid in excess of 500 per unit, personally I'd set a budget of 300 Max. you should still get summink good for that.. I'll ask Budbaby for the contact details of his LED supplier then maybe you can get your own custom setup too - STELTHY :leaf:
