LED Lighting

A friend of mine recently told me that it's impossible to grow top quality marijuana using LED lighting in a grow cabinet. I purchased a grow cabinet with expensive LED lighting about a week before he told me the bad news. God, I sure hope he's wrong. Is it possible to grow really high grade pot using high quality LED lighting in a grow cabinet? Someone out there, please answer my question.

Totally wrong. You can grow great bud with LED. For a closet you can't get any better. The only thing it has zero spread. You want your plants directly under the fixture fore the best results .

Thanks for the good news, guys. I also have LED side panels in the cabinet. Shouldn't that be a big help in providing light for any plants that are not directly under the fixture?

Sorry, Chronikool, I don't even own a camera, but if you go to cabinetgrow.com you can see the model I puchased. It's called the Earth Cab Pro XL Grow Box if you want to check it out.

Man, with a setup like that you should be able to grow killer buds. I am currently only using 2x10w from above and a 10w for side lighting and im happy with what im getting. I find people who have never grown with leds are always the first to put them down. Maybe its a government conspiracy :-P but i will grow no other way.

Yes, and I start blooming in 2 more days. This is my very first grow and I'm just like a little kid at Christmas waiting to play with his new toy. I can hardly wait, and with all the good news you guys have given me about LED lighting, I feel great. Thank you.

Yeah, I have a friend I can borrow a camera from, but I want to wait till I'm at least a few weeks into blooming before I show my set up, so stay tuned because it's going to be a while. The strains I'm growing are Original Amnesia, Black Diesel and Acapulco Gold. I'm mainly a Sativa lover.

Don't forget, you can put them inches above the canopy, which will give you the best results. This way you can go say fuck you to the HID crowd. You have better colors which MH/HPS cannot really match. Have fun, which I'm sure you will.

yea Im also overjoyed, +128 grams of top quality, super compact Bud`s plus a lot of trim, and its my first time flowering with LEDs, great Par light and great light output and penetration, according to my light meter almost as strong as my 600W HPS and for sure better spectrum/Par light

totaly blew my expectations for LEDs, did want one for some time now, and after reading a lot of bad reviews, I just had to see for myself, and yes your friend is right, if we talk cheap 1W Chinese LEDs with only/mainly blue/red LEDs but he is totally wrong when we talk quality LEDs

IME only down side LEDs have compared to HIDs is the space they cover, like somebody already said, you need to keep your plants pretty much under them as they are pretty one directed, but not that close as other mention, I found that 14-16 inch`s is the best distance, closer then 12" and they are to strong and will bleach your plant tops (did it on 3 of mine in the center of the light) at 15" my light meter still show +5K foot candles, same I had with my 600W HPS at the top of the plants, but the LEDs provide it in much better Par and with much less power used and next to no heat ;)

but tell me, you spend +3K $ on that set up but you don't owen a camera ? or even a smart phone or any phone with a camera in it ? pictures is a good thing to add in here for fast respond and better advice and of course fun :D

Just to note, not all LED's can be that close.
