LED Lighting

Leds do work. Most of the existing units for sale are snake oil type units. Especially the ones being show 3 feet plus over the tops of plants.....

The losses from HPS and MH bulbs are well, well documented. Plants have very specific spectrums that they prefer. Leds should be chosen to match those needs... kinda like adding the right amount of Micro and Bloom when using GH nutes.

My seedling unit is posted at TheCannaCabana.com

264 very tightly controlled current leds lighting up a roughly 14x9 box that holds 24 - 2" net pots that hits the power line for a whopping 12watts.

White leds are virtually useless for growing. Wrong spectrum

when using leds one is supposed to use blue light primarily for growth

and red for flowering. though for my set up i am going to be using both red and blue at all times, but just changing the ratios.

any store you typically recommend to get non - snake oil lights?

Ive only seen one or two units that are even close to being workable. Im guessing I am bout 60 days from marketing my seedling array unit.

Appreciate the input on red and blue. Thankfully Im very familiar with both major blue needs and all 3 major red needs.

i have personally tried the 90 watt hid hut ufo. the same one tested in high times magazine. it absolutely sucks for veg. can't stress that enough. i used it for my current grow and you can see the difference when i used that for several weeks and then went to a 96 watt aqualight. the difference is dramatic. that said i just put it back in the box to see if all those bright red led's would do anything for the flowering phase. i am running it with a 150 watt hps. i have already noticed within 24 hours that the flowers are starting to turn more toward the ufo and not the hps. so we shall see. but if you are looking to buy it for an all in one. save the cash.

I've actually used an LED panel once for seedlings. It worked with a 100% success with seed germination but that was leaving the damn thing on 24/7. It never git hot but it did get a bit warm. I would not pay more than $60 because for that price I could probably score a small T5 fixture.
