I dont think walmart would have any of the high powered leds you would be better off buying a shit load of 2700k cfls from there instead and leds are expensive as fuck and the results dont seem to be as good as hid lights.

Dude, LEDs are expensive, and Walmart is probably the wrong place to look for what you are wanting to do with them. Go with CFLs if you are looking to go cheap or save on heat. If money and heat are not an issue, go with HPS or HID.

^Unlike many light sources, LEDS emit a particular wavelength of light or several if phosphors are used. AKA, you will want to check to make sure the wavelengths the LED emits are in line with the photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) that plants grow from. Just because they're "white" LEDs doesn't mean they'll grow plants.

But, LEDS are catching up. It's not that they lack intensity, the Luxeons etc do, its the cost associated with having enough to grow plants economically. Good luck :peace:

for a veg box when i first started i used two in the lid and a rubber made box lined with tin foil and attached a 6 inch fan on the end with a vent whole cut in the other. when the plants got to close to the light and needed more room i got another rubber made box and flipped in on top of the other and put light sockets with a double socket plug for four lights on the top and just moved my fan up...i find it works really well for being home made, is cheap everything together cost about 60 bucks if you shop smart and its really compact and quite.

I had a grow using Walmart LEDs. they are the generic 100 watt equivalent 5000k. The only problems I had with them were my own fault. Once I failed to allow enough ventilation for the heat sink 2 release the heat outside my growing area. The other mistake was trying to use about 10000 lumens per square foot and stunted the growth of my young plants. My grow cabinet is a dead tall dorm size refrigerator hollowed out with 25 1 7/8 inch holes drilled in top. I squeezed the Dome lens of the LEDs in a vice held the screw and pop the heel of my hand against the hand holding the screw end of the LED, thus knocking the Dome loose from the LED. The rest you can figure out

Some quick advice, don't remove the foam insulation from the sides or back. It is structurally important. also, spray adhesives make Mylar application easier and cardboard holds Mylar better than foam does.

Also dont LEDs put off less heat then any other light.
LEDS put off less heat than HID's but probably more than CFL's. If you want to check out some LED's get on eBay or Amazon and you can get a good idea of what you might need. A 400w LED made by KIND will light a 4x4 area but will set you back between 5 and 6 bills!!!
