The blackstar are a pretty good investment, although there are other companies I think with panels that will last longer and have longer warranties. The only question really will be how much heat they make, we know they will grow well enough for their true wattage.

We will soon find out exactly how well they will do.
My plants have been in the dark for 5 days Since Gotham did not ship when they said they would. They would not even reply to my e-mail. I will not be doing business with them again.
So the room temp is 85-87º. Right on the top of the canopy is about 90-91º. A little warmer that I want but it should be fine I think.
Hopefully I can finish off my 4 Jilly Beans they where due to be harvested in about 1 week. So we'll see.

I run a Blackstar in my flowering space along w/ a cooled 400 watt HPS so I can give you a direct comparison. I grabbed the LED for the same reason, need more light but not more heat.
The BS doesnt produce much heat at all, your plants can get pretty close without getting burnt. I like them and am pretty happy, but to be honest in no way does it come close to the power of my 400 watt HPS. Id say it falls between a 150 and 400 HPS as far as light. Ive noticed that the plans that stay under the LED do get a little more trichome coverage and the buds are as dense as under a HPS. The BS does not have much of a footprint, I can only fit 2 plants in 3 gallon grow bags under the LED.
In any case, if heat is an issue the LED is a good but expensive alternative with heat issues. . In hindsight, I should have just grabbed a 1000 watt HPS and a kick ass fan. Lesson learned I guess.

So how close do you place your girls to the blackstar? There site said 10-14 inches so I was keeping it 10 inches.
I have 4 Jilly Beans each about 4ft. They should be finishing up this weekend but I had to kill the hps do to the oppressive heat so early. So I would like to place the BS as close as I can to get a little canopy penetration. I am keeping the next ones smaller for the lights.
Should you wear glasses in the room with that thing on. When I left the red of the room everything looked a little green. Felt weird. It probably will burn my retina something with my luck.
My 1000w is air cooled by the way, but its still a lot of heat. I am looking forward to running all three lights this fall.

I let my plants get withing 3 inches from the LED, havent had any burn or negative impact yet.
As far as sunglasses, Ive never used them...i learned 20 years ago not to look right at the bulbs (HID or LED)

3 inches?!?!?!??!?!?!??! I haven't had the balls to lower my 395w any more than 12in in flower (2ft in veg)
