Looking to replace my 400watt hps tomorrow to led. Was just curious what i would be looking for as an upgrade from a 400 hps. I look at leds and it says the 600 watt led replaces a 250 watt Hps? so what size of led would i be looking at for it to be an upgrade ?

I would look at your grow area size and buy one that covers that area.

The ones i am looking at say 3x3 is core max is 4x4 but says it replaces only A 250 watt hid. Although the plant can almost touch a lwd panel before its to hot for the plant

I'd probably go with a different one then. I, myself use a 900 watt Meizhi and it's borderline too small in a4x4

What if i got the meizhi 600 led and hung that along with my 400 hps?
Or can i grow two plants k under the 600 meizhi alone ?

The 600 has not enough coverage and personally I wouldn't put it with the hps either. You'd be better off to get a 4 cob kit from timber and put that around the hps.

Do yourself a favor and look into all these diy cob builds or quantum boards, that is if you want a real replacement for a HID.
If still set on cheap leds then mars or viparspectra seem to get the best results. Just keep in mind LED's have a much smaller footprint than that of a HID, so would need more to fill your space accordingly.

Only change to LED from HPS if your going to buy quality. Cheap ones are not cooler than HPS.
Be very careful what you buy, if a light is advertised as a 600w light but only has 200w of power then that's a sign they are selling a load of lies.
The way forward would be as suggested cobs or quantum boards, they are good because they are vey efficient, so you really can run 250w and cover a 4x4 and have more light than a 400w HPS. All these cheap lights on ebay/amazon are cheap for a reason.
If your going to do it buy from a know advertiser on here. There are a lot of Chinese manufacturers jumped on the cob band wagon churning out crap.

I have seen people get good results from the mars hydro 48 and 98 refelctors
Absolutely.
The way I see it is that they're good for people like me who want to try it before sinking a big pile of money into a top fixture. This becomes specially true when youonly grow for your own household andmaybe give some away. My first harvest will barely be used up half by the time the second comes in.
I've had people look at my results. General smokers and people who worked in this "business" and everybody was impressed by it. So why would I want to change? Granted, once this light goes, it's a cob light for sure that is going to be purchased.

Someone posted the other day about their 1200 Meizhi saying it ran really hot. So if that's the case, make sure your venting is top

The high end gear has some scary ass price tags attached to them and as a newbie grower would deffo be more than ya need but from the info ive read online, for $200-$400 on a china LED or $400-$600 on a US made LED, DIY cobs blow them all out the water and cost a fraction of the price.

Visparspectra 450w-600w. Look at it. It works good. People here have grow logs with it.

That was me.
I was running it in a 5x6x6.5 tent.
Had 5inch exhaust going outside and passive intake from room tent is in. Temps were getting to 86-90 F.

Im about to switch to 6inch exhaust and 5inch intake but from outside. The intake will have a fan but hooked to temp control to only come on if room gets above 80F.

Ill try to let u guys know how it works out.

Sound advice.
It's ask not all about the wattage I'm my honest opinion.
My light gives my plants more PAR light than they can absorb - don't need more for a 5x5 tent doing SCROG.

Here is my light I got built:
My light is custom made, here is information:

12 Cob Vero 29 D series SE
1400 PPFD at 8"
6 COBs BXRC-40E10K0-D-73-SE
6 COBs BXRC-30E10K0-D-73-SE
108,000 lumens
Switchable 6 COBs on veg/12 COBs on flower
230w per rail
690 w total.

Picture attached showing 2 of 3 arrays on but only the 6cobs for veg.
It comes with a dimmer switch per array 1-12 dial and I can add a ton More COBs if I wanted to this array.

My third array was damaged being shipped and should be back tomorrow!!

It's worth the investment especially in Ontario where Hydro is super expensive as I'm able to turn off 6 COBs not being used in veg.

I would stay away fe
Blurples etc as they aren't as effective and if something goes on it the whole unit goes.

My light wasn't cheap tho but very happy with my investment especially since my plants are important and light is important to them.

Hope that helps - I'm new but would prefer to buy an item that's top notch and upgradable as well as great for electricity and not over kill

:)
