black star are low quality light. they work well when they work but they dont last long
yea please post pics of your half burnt out Blackstars please? I have never heard this.blackstar are a low quality pannel i have 3 240w, and all of them are half burnt out in less than a year . and there not helpful with there waranty i have been using a 350 and 2 240w dr grow right these pannels are bad ass solid as rock nugs and huge . before i had these in my flower room i had a 600w lumatek, great light but draw was 640w. with my dr grow right draw is 520w and yeild is 30 to 40% more and quality is much higher with no heat isses
hell i was just going to order one. I'm glad i didn't so what would you guys suggest. Im not looking for yield or a huge grow.black star are low quality light. they work well when they work but they dont last long
It's not like installing a car stereo. You can't do it with a simple step-by-step. You probably should have some sort of electronic background before attempting to build you own, home-made, cutting-edge technology. I'm not saying it's impossible, but if you have to ask "is it possible", then the simple answer is no. Not for you (no offense).Has anyone here built there own LED panel and would be willing to do a Tutorial Build Thread on it? From what Ive heard you can build your own for a fraction of the cost and you choose the all the components.
Yup its been done, theres a guy in the DIY that claims to be able to and has offered to help. It's not like installing a car stereo. You can't do it with a simple step-by-step. Oh no, I said it was entirely possible. But some knowledge of electronics is required. And if you had knowledge of electronics you'd know that building an LED panel is definitely possible. Therefore he wouldn't have asked "is making my own led panel possible".Yup its been done, theres a guy in the DIY that claims to be able to and has offered to help.
I would go here first, long thread but focus on Kanna and his pictures/guide

Itll still be at least $150+ because you need to buy quality LED's.

REALLY, it never ceases to amaze me how ignorant and totally judgmental people can be and once more, you are SOOO WRONG!!! Why don't you read my post again, this time word for word :Oh no, I said it was entirely possible. But some knowledge of electronics is required. And if you had knowledge of electronics you'd know that building an LED panel is definitely possible. Therefore he wouldn't have asked "is making my own led panel possible". I'm just trying to save the dude a headache.
As you can clearly see I NEVER, EVER said the words "Is it possible" as I know for a fact its possible because I know a guy on MJ.com who built one cheaply and based on what he posted fairly easily, he said the soldering was basically the hardest part. If you really think I'm soo inept that I can't solder some led's together with a heat sink, fans and a power supply (far from cutting-edge technology by the way) then obviously you don't know me, I build and fly hobby grade collective pitch rc helicopters not to mention I do remodeling/carpentry work on the side so I think building an LED grow light would barely even challenge me. A little tip: I highly suggest that before you go making comments like "And if you had knowledge of electronics....bla, bla, bla" you might want to do some research and find out if the person actually has knowledge of electronics, just MHO anyway. Oh and where in the hell are you getting this "Its not like installing a car stereo. You can't do it with a simple step by step", REALLY??? OK, well out of curiosity I opened up my 90W UFO and I can tell you with certainty that with a little instruction my 9yr old niece could build it. when I do build my own LED grow light I'm going to post a "Step by step" tutorial on how I built it and I bet you a 7th grader could do it, is that simple enough for you??? I just don't understand why there are so many people who want to judge, bash and insult others rather than try to help them, I mean if your post isn't helpful, WTF is the point???Has anyone here built there own LED panel and would be willing to do a Tutorial Build Thread on it? lol what. Calm down kid, smoke a bowl or something. If you get frustrated this easily there's no way you can build your own LED panel. lolz Go cry in your corner, quit bothering us. How pathetic is your life that you get THAT upset over.......nothing lol.REALLY, it never ceases to amaze me how ignorant and totally judgmental people can be and once more, you are SOOO WRONG!!! Why don't you read my post again, this time word for word :

I haven't seen any LED grows along those lines but that would be really impressive. There are a couple really good perpetual grows around though that use LEDs.anyone have any expiereince using stinkbuds pound every threee weeks system using led lights instead of hps?
Dude you basically called me ignorant and said I had no skills in electronics, if that's not Trolling someone what is???? The only "Drama" I caused was to YOU, not intentional by the way but apparently me separating the facts from your fiction has you hot under the collar, who needs to go smoke here, I'm totally calm and was so when I wrote the OP!!! When I log on here I have one of two intentions, to either look up info or help someone else find answers, the only time I deviate from that is when some like you steps out of line and I have to put you back in your place, so stay there!lol what. Sidenote - if it's so easy for you then quit asking for instructions. Like you said, its just some soldering. So where's your LED panel? Why you asking questions, McGyver? Get the fuck outta here with your drama bullshit, no one needs it.
Nor will youI haven't seen any LED grows along those lines but that would be really impressive. There are a couple really good perpetual grows around though that use LEDs.
If the caparison is to be close I would do the side lighting but replace the top with the 500 then if all conditions are close to equal he will have all the research he needs if the run is a K watt test. Still less consumption I think with 5 panels working. What in your guys opinion's would be best if you were going to BLOOM 1 Plant as an LED test of Maximum ability?
All would be Black Star. Would a BS 240 on the top, and 4 (on the sides... Overkill, I know) for max side lighting, or would a 500W BS REALLY outperform a 240W on the top if the plant is going to be surrounded with 4X 240's anyway?
I understand it is 1 plant, but a buddy is wanting to test 1 single run with only 1 under a 1000W HPS (crazy), and the other covered in LED lighting to see the effect of THC and size difference and wattage comparison come to & whatever else he is trying to learn on density, structure, strength etc. He's a little odd, but I think it would be a Really cool experiment to see.
What would you guys suggest? I told him I had no clue. Ive never grown anything, and I see so much bad about LED's, and I keep hearing they make the buds stronger but smaller, and then I will hear people argue back and forth that LED blows away HPS. So, I have no idea what to tell him, and I'm normally the "Tech Guy"...
Lol put me back in my place......on the internet. Good one. You can understand why I thought you had no electronic experience, and in even if you didn't, that doesn't make you dumb. Nor did I say, or imply, that you're a dumb person. I don't know you. But I DID take a fairly general electronics course in the AF. That far from makes expert, but I know enough you can't just solder some shit together and call it good to go. Electronic devices have things called capacitors, and resistors, and fuses, and relays, and inductors, and the list goes on and on and on. So when someone asks a simple question like "can i make my own led panel?", it makes me think maybe you don't realize all the little things, that seemingly do nothing, but are meant to stabilize your electronics and make them safe/dependable. Hence why I thought you had no electronic experience (especially as an electronic engineer). Again, just because you're not a electronics expert doesn't mean I think you're dumb, so why are you taking so much offense. I think you REALLY need to get some better weed if you smoked, and still thought your argument sounds rational.Dude you basically called me ignorant and said I had no skills in electronics, if that's not Trolling someone what is???? PS. I just found out that you were a former Avionics Test Station And Components Apprentice, I can respect that, now can you respect the fact that I don't want to be betrayed as an incompetent fool?
IDK man, give it another year or two for the panels to keep improving and price to come down then something like that could be possible. I'm not saying anyone will do it or that if they try to they'll be successful, but I can see the potential for it in the future.Nor will you
Namaste'
While this certainly may prove true, it is not now...and from what I have seen there have been no real improvements in these regards for quite a few years now...the lights oof today or still very cost prohibitive and can see no improvments shown in grows that suggest they are any better than the ones from 5 years ago...just alot of the real garbage has been weeded out but no real production performers have yet emerged and I have not noticed any quality enhancement in comparing my own grows and sampling the meds from the led growers I know and am friends with...I use CMH and uvb supplementation reptile bulbsIDK man, give it another year or two for the panels to keep improving and price to come down then something like that could be possible.
