Either could suite your needs quite well.
I use LEDs, and I like them a lot. But the start up cost was a lot more expensive than if I went the HPS route.

A couple LED buds from my last harvest.

They can be cheaper to operate, but up front costs for buying one, HPS is definitely cheaper.

My 240 watt LED (actually operates at 133 watts) cost me $270, for that I could have gotten two 400 watt HPS setups, or one 1000 watt HPS setup. But I prefer LED, I've tried HPS, and I got tired of dealing with the heat issues.

CFLs are decent too, and are super cheap compared to any lighting.

So HPS is cheaper? i thought LED would of been way cheaper? :O

led is a new technology and shows promise but it is not yet as efficient and effective as an hps system. since it is new the technology is more expensive and is not as tested as hps. if you want expert results use what the experts use and get an hps.

I havent really seen any CFL grows to be that successful though, have you guys?
And id love to go led but i wouldnt really know what is a good bulb and what isnt haha.
I want to start using autoflowering seeds so i want big yields that are quick.
My choice of lighting revolves around those factors :)

I've rocked the shit out of some autos back in the day with CFLs, just had to use a lot of them to acheive desireable results. Typically at least 1 105w monster cfl per plant. A pic below from my old school CFL set up. Since then I've switched to HPS (too much heat), then switched to LED. My girls love the leds, bought mine from hydroponics hut. Pro grow series is legit.
IMAGE_019.jpg got about an oz off each, most I ever pulled with CFLs was close to 2 oz dried and cured

So even if i had a decent CFL you recommend using one per plant?
And is there any chance i could have a link of the LED's you purchased?
Im on a strict budget but i do my best to aid my girls :D
Oh and i am looking to grow auto's from now on, are you still growing those?

Where I get my CFLs. They have two spectrums avail on the Global Consumer Products line (which I've used with much success). I'd recommend using a mix of the two buying more flowering than veg spectrums.

As for the LED lights, you have to make sure you buy some real lights from a legit dealer. Ben at Hydro Hut will take care of you. The Pro-Grow 180 is very legit, its got what plants crave. I cannot recommend this light enough. It wails the crap out of a piece of shit 90w ufo I got from LED wholesalers on Ebay. Granted that light is 90w compared to 180 but the difference is palpatable. Serious LED grow lights unfortunately cost serious money. Plus the Pro-Grow LED from Hydroponics Hut has a 3 year made in usa manufacter's warranty.

Yes I still and always will grow autos. I do a photo period grow every now and then when I get a wild hair up my ass. Anything auto bred by Stitch, or Short Stuff Seeds will give you the results you need. Sweet seeds also breeds good autos. Those pics I posted are of Auto Assasins at approximately day 40 (cept for the small one on the right hand side of the pic). When I started I used one of the 105 CFLs per plant keeping them close enough to each other that one main light provided side lighting for the ones next to it.

if you're looking for a reputable seed bank that ships to the USA I personally rely on www.dope-seeds.com I cannot speak from personal experience for Nirvana or any of the other board sponsors but from what I've read they also seem legit. Also Big Jim at dope-seeds always tosses in a couple free seeds with every order.
