LED Watts compared to HPS Watt

Man that ad is really screwed up. They have half a dozen different models and only one price. Also, I read where the 14w covers 6 sq ft, LOL!!! Just my two pesos amigo but I would snag a 600w or 1,000w HPS and call it a day; it would be perfect for a 3x3 space.

don't waste your time on eBay leds. Very low quality.. Go with either area 51, apache tech, or Hans led. Best leds in the industry. They all use top of the line parts. Apache and a51 have lifetime limited warranties. Hans just has a 3 year. or you could build your own. There's plenty of DIY threads in the led section. Then inda gro induction is very good too. I have 3 inda gros and a51

with quality led. Its about 50 watts of led to 100-125 watts of hps. If you go hid. CMH is a much better option than hps. Philips elite agro or allstart line.

thanks Hyroot. What watt led would you replace a 600 hid with? How do I make the comparison?

2 area 51 rw 150's or xgs 190's . You can cover a 4x4. Apache is good too but more pricey. 2 apache tech at200's

email area51led. They will give you a better deal if you talk to them plus bulk discounts.

I have last years model of the area 51 sgs 160. I'm covering a 3x3 with 2 5gals at 3 1/2 feet tall under each.

an inda Gro 420 induction will beat a 600w. With the add on led pfr pontoons, they come close to matching a 1000w..

quality of led depends on quality of

heat sinks
led
PCB boards
drivers
fans
assembly

Mind if I ask if you saw a change in yield with leds?
not really a difference in yield. But I'm growing shorter plants. With hps. I grew 5 ft tall plants . Now 3 feet average. With led and induction, Faster veg.. Denser buds, 2-3 times more trichome development. 2-3% THC increase. More uniform growth. Over all happier plants..

for lighting I look at par (umole/s /intensity) and cri (color rendering index). Imo cri is most important. Other led heads may not agree. Most are more about effacy and efficiency. With cri the higher the cri the more even the spectral distribution. CMH and Cree cxa 3070 3000k cobs and induction have cri rating in the 90's. Other Cree and Nichia leds are 80 cri. Hps is 25-35 cri... A51, Hans use Cree. Apache uses Nichia.

also with hps more bleaching and yellowing towards the end.

my induction plants seem to have a faster metabolism than my led plants. The led plants in veg grow roots faster and more than anything. Water less often (in veg.

If it were me i'd forget about LED & go with HPS , with grow lighting you get what you pay for when you buy the cheapest model anything rest assured it's going to be a pc of shit , if the actual grow space is 3ft x 3ft such as a closet i'd use a 400 hps & line the walls with panda plastic , if the space is larger but your only gonna use 3ft x 3ft then running a 600 hps might work , you could also use T-5 lighting if dealing with heat build up is going to be a huge obstacle .

HPS in place now. Anticipating summer heat issues but on a budget. Thanks
