LEDs and potency

pheno hunt....pheno hunt....pheno hunt

si, so true, I have this beuatiful afghan cultivar that pops ups once in a while in my hunts, so frosty and never greasy...So lovely looking and has as much THC as lawn grass...It is the loveliest looking bunk I may have ever grown, one of the frostiest of all...sans more UV....hmmm...just an oddity that keeps popping up here and there...

I feel like I can tell a difference after just 2 days with the CFLs. Seems to have more zest. The combination is better than either alone I guess.

I found a great thread on this over at icmag in the side by side section. It was between mh and hps but it has some great examples of each. The OP just kills it with cheap mh bulbs.

I think they're might be LED monos perfect for this. I'll post if I find anything. I've been looking for a simple, low wattage-dissipation way to enrich the spectrum of my COB bars.

To update this, regular white CFLs didn't do shit to increase potency but blacklight CFLs do seem to work.

If you haven't, I highly recommend checking out this journal.

This is the result from using additional UVB. RM3 uses a few UVB tubes and you can see how ridiculously frosty they get. He's got it dialed in for UVB.

If you think you got frosty buds, his will put yours to shame.

Everyone who's tried those buds has described the effect as narcotic. That could be a deterrent to those who don't find that trait desirable.

I don't think it even needs to be UVB. I think UVA, blacklight, also works. There just haven't been experiments with UVA only (that I could find). Maybe UVB works better though. Actually I should probably try to get some reptile lights.

they only make powerveg in 4'

they fit standard 4' t5ho fixtures
I'm leaning towards something like the arcadia t5 controller with sealed sockets on wires. I just dont know if it will work stateside or if there is an equivalent system in the US.

It needs to be UVB, UVA won't help.

385 nm increases phenolics. That's far above UV-B and right in UV-A. So blacklights must have value. How do we know 385 nm doesn't increase THC? I know UV-B would work better but UV-A might also be worth using.

I would like to see some 365nm-400nm leds used in a side by side up against the same setup without.

Blacklight bulbs look to filter out much of the light with the coating. Reptile bulbs look like they have a better filter that allows more light through. Not a very scientific review just a sloppy observation.

I saw direct contradictory evidence in a study I read, and of course can't find right now, that was clear that 315nm in the UVB range was the active wavelength.
