Plants only use 10% of HID light.
Plants don't care how much light a human's eye can see (lumens).
Maximum chlorophyll A production occurs at 662nm (for red) and 430nm (for blue), while maximum chlorophyll B production occurs at 642nm (for red) and 453nm (for blue).
If your lights are putting out anything besides this including HEAT your are wasting ENERGY and $$$. When you rig fans to cool your lights you are wasting MORE energy and money. If that is OK with you then I could not care less about you or your opinion.
I have seen brand new MH bulbs MELTDOWN and if you want to risk burning down buildings then LEDs are not for you.
However if you want to grow DENSE NUGS and save the ENVIRONMENT and your $$$ then LEDs ARE for you. Here is what you can do for a few hundred dollars:
(1) Growlab 40. 16x16x47"
(1) Phresh Filter w/ 4" flange
(2) 4" inline-duct fans 80cfm
(1) Sunshine Systems Glowpanel45
(2) Cannalope Haze clones that were in very rough shape
(1) 1 gallon DWC bucket, 4" circular air-stone, 3 watt air-pump
CNS 17 Bloom nutrient 30ml/gal store-bought spring or tap water, no pH balance
This is the Growlab 40 before I got my Glowpanel 45.
2 weeks flowering.
NOTE: LEDs make cameras go haywire. This is because LEDs are alien technology and space-creatures don't care about anything except terraforming planets using plants they grow using insanely energy efficient methods in 0 grav environs. Dig it
4 weeks flowering
at 6 weeks I added a GlowPanel and a Mixed-spectrum GrowSpot
The plant is very green, probably due to all the chlorophyll production based on the plant using 100% of the light. The buds and leaves are covered in tricomes. I do not have to worry about burnt leaves as LEDs convert energy to light and not heat. I have colas contacting the LED panel.
It will flower for another month or 2.
Sunshine Systems LEDs are top quality. They are shipped in anti-static bubble-wrap and include a lot of mounting hardware. I have purchased generic LED lights that had no hardware or markings on the box. Not groovy.
The GlowPanel45 would have been more than enough to crop out. I added the additional lights because I haven't bought more Growlab40s.
I plan on doing a comparison grow using the GlowPanel45, GlowPanel, and GrowSpot after this harvest.
