Yes that's what I knew all along until my idiot friend said what he said..now i'm nervous as hell
Your buddy sounds like a bit of an idiot so stop listening to him.

Technically you are supposed to get your seeds or clones from a legal supplier but I haven't heard about anyone getting hassled about their sources yet but as long as you are in a legal province 4 plants is cool.

Taken from the official Canadian website. Note the fourth item down the list about growing from licensed seed or seedlings. Where to get them in the strain you like tho? I wouldn't worry about it much as it isn't a criminal offense as far as I can find to get caught with 4 unlicensed plants. Just a fine if you are over 4 by a small number.

I have 12 in flower and one vegging upstairs. 24 cuttings that should be rooted any day now so way past 4 plants. I have a medical for 12g/day which would allow me to grow 59 plants if I ever applied to Hellth Canaduh but screw them. :)

What is legal as of October 17, 2018
Subject to provincial or territorial restrictions, adults who are 18 years of age or older are legally able to:

  • possess up to 30 grams of legal cannabis, dried or equivalent in non-dried form in public
  • share up to 30 grams of legal cannabis with other adults
  • buy dried or fresh cannabis and cannabis oil from a provincially-licensed retailer
    • in provinces and territories without a regulated retail framework, individuals are able to purchase cannabis online from federally-licensed producers
  • grow, from licensed seed or seedlings, up to 4 cannabis plants per residence for personal use
  • make cannabis products, such as food and drinks, at home as long as organic solvents are not used to create concentrated products.
Relax.

:peace:

If a person grows at home, no one knows and it doesn't leave the house nothing is going to happen. Apartments are risky however. Some people have too many friends and that is a limitation. The more people who grow, the less risk there is for each grower. Someone who goes shoplifting with a joint in a shirt pocket is likely to have possession tacked on to shoplifting charges. I don't know of one case where an individual has been busted at home just for growing a few plants. I am sure someone can think of one but I don't know of one.

Just my 2 cents but donyou really think the authorities in Canada are gonna waste taxpayers money busting a backyard grower over 4 plants?? Give your head a shake. You know the costs involved in all of that?

No. I know a bunch of cops here (used to be in the military) and they say they will only respond to calls about too many plants if there are indications of actual bad shit going down, or if it's someone they're trying to put away. Even then, one or two or five extra plants are still just a fine as a plant is considered the equivalent of one gram of weed. If you're not an asshole, when they're counting your plants, they'll get to 4 and say "yep there's your 4 plants", and just not mention the others. If you have them. Considering what you can get from one outdoors plant straight in the ground, if you have 4, you won't be buying any anytime soon. And you are legally allowed to trade weed, up to 30g, if you're into more variety. If you're growing to sell, then they will be paying attention. And you can trade seeds. So to get legal seeds that aren't Bakerstreet just make friends with a medical guy who bought his seeds or produced them himself. Just don't directly pay for them. You could even trade a Bakerstreet seedling for one of his if he needs or wants an indica.
The authorities here mostly expect everyone to be committing minor offences that don't endanger others, many without even realizing what they're doing is illegal. They only prosecute when someone's watching.
