Most bud doesn't smell much when growing unless its hot or stressed(or just really stinky strain) during trim it should stink though and when you break up a nug it should stink..all for the same reasons...but after harvest it will smell like hay or breaking down plant matter and if hanging in a cool place (remember above, stink when hot) then they won't smell much as not much is evaporating away..the hay smell will overpower until its done breaking down with a slow dry and exhaled it away..through gas transfer and hydrolysis it gets broken down...moisture is necessary and so is not jarring to soon...now once its cured its natural smell has altered and permeated the herb and will stink when you smell it and open a jar and definitely when you break it up...........

If it doesn't smell good when ground it may never smell good..just smell like tea
