Lenses\reflectors for a CXB3590 build to be used in a 4' x 4' tent.

I'm looking at building a 10 or 12 COB setup like shown in @Growmau5's videos. I've got most things figured out, but one thing I have not been able to find any kind of consensus on is what sort of lenses or reflectors to use. Right now my current thoughts on the issue are:
  • I'm not overly worried about the water proofing that the lenses provide, so I'm not considering that a factor.
  • Going with no lens or reflector at all may be an option simply because of the reflective tent.
  • I plan to use training (likely scrog as well) to keep an even canopy.

My spreadsheet with build info and such: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FINZnnUMSpaMvGf5U2Oi9od5CUEd1JZ3Qb9GkhPyljM/edit#gid=0

tl;dr: What lenses or reflectors for CXB3590 in a 4' x 4' tent?

There is no consensus , you can make your decision based on gut feeling, opinion, anecdotal evidence or data.

here is the data: https://www.rollitup.org/t/lens-and-reflector-optics-for-cob.893660/

discussed in depth here:

For 10-12 cobs in a reflective 4x4 tent, I think you will see very little difference in performance between reflector or lens. so if you want the protection of a lens, go with a lens.

if you want to save weight and money, go with the Kingbrite $0.88 reflectors.

hope that helps.

Thanks @Growmau5, I watched that last night, was a good one. Though your helmet's (mask? dome?) glowy bits seem a bit dim for someone who's working with CXBs....

I'll have to find the KB reflectors.

I actually just thought of another question that you might be able to answer, though it might just be another "do as your heart leads you" situation... I currently plan to do the 10 cob layout as the 12 cob layout would take more than 3 years of use before it's more cost effective. My power costs are just that low here. I'm only doing the LEDs because running a minisplit will never be an option at this location.

So that leaves me wondering which is the better for the plants, cost difference aside. The 10 has more overall power but the 12 has a bit better of a spread. I'm leaning towards the 10's overall power making up for the worse spread.

Edit:// I fully recognize I'm probably overthinking it. But, I don't have the money to do the build yet so think is all I can do... :wall:

as for overthinking it , nah I'm thinking along the same lines, I had that same thought as well .

& I am most interested you getting your answer discussed
