That's ok the organic gurus here should give you a pass. That is the dopest rdwc setup I've ever seen. If you are gonna do hydro that is how it's done.
I grow in living soil for medicinal and recreational purposes. Smoke report coming in a few short weeks...

Ya, I made the mistake of replying to a post in the Politics section a while ago. I didn't even know there was a Politics section back then, lol. That is a nice setup for sure. I would like to try out DWC someday since I've never done it.
And, your plants look great Drysift.
nice thread, love seeing what I can hopefully mimic with my grow. my first time growing photos, only had a few auto grows previously, so hoping to learn a little more on this grow.
4 plants are only on day four since flip, but grabbed this picture today when watering. the two on left are more cowbells from bodhi and the two on the right are copper chem from GPS. things are real tight right now, only a 2x2.5ft tent, but still waiting to see their sex to maybe free up some space. any advice is always welcomed.

I would like to do organics but just doing it for like a 10x10 idk about it anymore is it worth doing all the soil then do a top dressing every couple weeks and never have to do anything else its tempting but im not sure. all I would have to do for watering is just top up a res with water and just flip a valve that sounds good but I don't know about the top dressing part. lots of pros and cons but really been thinking about doing a corner just doing organics because ive done it before I was pretty happy with it .

so could you give me some pointers for organic soil for seedlings/veg/flower. I hear great things about fox farm soil but don't you still need to add a few things light perlite, vermiculite ect..?
also, im using a 4ft light bar that takes regular bulbs for veg. they are led 1600 lemuns each and 6500k light spectrum in a 4x4 area eight bulbs in each fixture and I have two, would the 2000w led on amazon be better for my veg space or the set up I have now. In flower I am using two high pressure sodium 600w lights in a 8x8.
if you have the time could you help out with the soil and your opinion on my light set up.

Thanks! Aeroponic hydro is what made me go organic lol. Always had very good yields from my stinkbud style flower rails. In late October of 2016?everything went to hell. Power went out for 11 days due to a nasty ice storm. That was the end of hydro growing for me. I had a few plants in soil at the time so I never went back.
Its doubtful that the led you see on Amazon is anywhere near a 2000w output. Blurple Chinese led companies like to add up the wattage by putting 200 supposedly 10w diodes in a panel and say it's 2000 watts but it isn't. That being said these types of leds are good for supplemental lighting and vegging small plants but they don't have much penetration through heavy canopy. Using one that says it's 1000w, again it's not putting out a 1k equivalent, but it does induce tight nodal branching almost as well as a 400w MH but won't reach deeper than the top 10 inches of canopy.
Hard to say if a couple panel style leds would outperform a T5. Look into full spectrum bulbs from eye hortiluxe or agromax; you can even get them with uva + b. I use one in my bloom room for finishing and as side lighting alongside the hps. Personally I wouldn't veg mid-large plants with anything other than a 400w to get tight nodal branching which turn to nice fat colas later on.
For soil fox farm ocean forest is pretty good and very easy to get which is mostly why I use it but any decent organic garden soil will work. You can just use it as is and amend it later on as needed or just wait til after harvest to recycle it. It's a good idea to add worm castings to it which will ensure it stays active for awhile. If you plan to keep plants in it long term without potting up again anytime soon add some slow release fertilizer. I like using Charlie's compost brand chicken doo doo but cow manure or guano could work too. For flowering cycle I build a large final size container with a bit more fertilizer, ewc, and 2 Jobes organic spikes. They feed for 8 weeks. You can see in the pic above how my plants are now yellowing off on the final weeks because the spikes have now been spent. Check out my thread for a list of optional soil amendments you can aquire over time. Ewc is always at the top; sometimes that's all I add. Having a worm factory makes this a snap; ups your game to baller status.
Absolutely! My bloom room is slightly larger than 8x8 and I use an 600w hps as my main light. I think an hps for flowering gives you the most bang for your buck if you use the right bulb. Cannot go wrong with eye hortiluxe 600w hps bulbs; best performing hps imo and I've tried many.

usually change them every 6 months and if their the hortilux I run them a year but I switched to led

1 year or less depending upon the bulb; eye hortiluxe 600w hps last that long but other brands can degrade even faster. After 365 days of continuous use hps bulbs begin to degrade output. After 18 months they put out 30% less lumens than a new bulb or so I read. Just replaced mine yesterday as it happens; weird that you ask....

Thanks. The initial setup is a lot of work but I basically have it all automated at this point. Float valve, inkbirds that control humidity and cooling, and pH doser.
Did you build or have to buy the system? The initial investment in Hydro is insane. I say that but I spend a fortune on my soils lol. What can I say, i'm a soil nerd. Your system is very professional, looking at that setup I can see why you stuck with it.
The plants look great. Do you have to run the same strains in every bucket so you don't over nute one strain and the other is starving?

I built it. Some stuff from Amazon, some from Lowes. Usually I have 2 different strains going, that can be the only downside, some strains feed differently but honestly I havent had a problem with that yet, right now I have 3 orange sundae and 3 planet of the grapes going.
Do you have a thread? Definitely interested in watching that play out!
