Let's talk about guns. . . . . .

Unless one desires an accurate rifle

they work in bad conditions- I get that

still
I think the appeal is that you can buy a gross of them without breaking the bank.

Gonna ride across the river deep and wide
Ride across the river to the other side

Nothing gonna stop them as the day follows the night
Right becomes wrong, the left becomes the right
And they sing as they march with their flags unfurled
Today in the mountains, tomorrow the world

I'll take your word on that, they aren't really something that interests me

I have a well-developed handload for my 1951 Sako .222

I have a hand load my old Winchester .22-250 likes, we use it on prairie dogs and the like. At 700 - 800 yards that rifle is a beast. Longest shot made o it was by my father, I was there and he nailed a prarie dog at a distance of 1075 yards, practically no wind that day. My best shot with that rifle was a coyote on the run at 750 yards (he was stealing our chickens).

Can't beat a handload for accuracy. Thats how we learned not all AK's are really that bad. at a shooting party my buddy held yearly, tons of ppl would come with their guns, we had 5 AK's there total one day and one fella had some hand loaded 7.62x39 that was shooting super groups at 200 yards, sub 1.5 inch but not quite 1 inch. We tried his loads is the other AK's that were there and one of them was making one ragged hole at 200 yards (that one had optics on it) while the others were all around 1.5 - 2 inch except one that was terrible and all over the place.

Funny stuff that.

I had my eye test today for new glasses. Talking with the eye doctor, we decided the worst part of wearing glasses was not being able to use open sights. (But a close second, me being ultra tight, is paying out 800 bucks for 3 pairs of glasses)

Is "open sights" a reference to gun sights? I don't get it. Besides that, try Costco for glasses.

Yes, gun sights. Sorry, I assumed you were a gun guy.

I use the walmart vision center and I like the guys in there a lot. In the last year, twice I've taken my bent and damaged glasses to them and they always get me going with no charge. I try to get one really nice flexing pair with top of the line lenses, then a second pair just one step down in frame and lenses, then a woods pair with cheap frames and plastic lenses. In the past you got half off all the pairs after the most expensive one. Now it's only 20% off the extra pairs. In round numbers they were $350, 250, and 50 with an additional 60 for the test.

Fine. I do have a couple rifles my dad handed down to me, but no, I'm not a gun guy. My uncle had a great collection of guns; though. He had guns from the 18th Century and fired every one.

I have an old remington 700 bdl bull barrel with a leupold 18x. It hasn't been shot in 40 years. It was a rocket. I used a hand loader as well.

I'm a collector, leaning heavy to old guns. For years I bought myself a gun every birthday. But the last four or five years I've stopped buying. Even sold a few. Other than killing varmints with a .22, I never shoot these days.

The best I have is a Winchester 1895 30-40, U.S. (AKA Krag) that was used to hunt deer in Colorado, a beautiful piece, made in 1915. I don't know why I feel it to be sentimental, I've never fired it. The other is just a Winchester .22 varmint gun. Both kept as a gun owner should. That 1895 was Teddy Roosevelt's favorite.
Edit: After my dad got back from the South Pacific, he said he couldn't shoot anything, unless it was with a camera.

I've got a few nice guns, but my friend ran a pawn shop, and I bought a ton of his stock that had sat on the shelf for too long. As far as good guns, in round numbers I have about 25 long guns and 5 pistols. (I won't mention a number of the rest)

I have a double barrel Italian 20 gauge shotgun that I like a lot. My Colt 32.20 revolver is pretty special to me. It's 1920's or there about. Also a Savage 30.30 bolt action that looks like a .22 laying on the truck seat. It's the best shooting 30.30 I have. Or was. The thing with the open sights. . . . .

My Daddy did the walking tour of France and Germany in 1944. He was shot twice and spent half a year in a German POW camp. He still hunted, but we were never allowed German Shepard dogs. I thank the good Lord that I served between wars.

Guns are for pussies. I pack a howitzer.
No one is safe until we are all strapped with enough explosives to take out the neighborhood. Or maybe everyone should have a nuclear device. Perfect safety. Ahhh we can all relax when we can each destroy the world multiple times over. Mmmm freedom.

There was a really good SNL skit where everyone in the town had their own nuke. Was pretty insightful.

But looking back at this thread, I think it was aimed at the three types of gun people. Pro Gun. Anti Gun. And folks who understand firearms.

Whats an "assault rifle"?
A weapon that is capable of burst-fire and/or full-auto-fire.

Semi-automatics are not able to fire bursts or continuously, so they can’t be assault weapons: assault requires the firepower, it’s why the capacity exists. A semi-auto is not a capable battle rifle because it is single-shot. It may be self-cocking and self-reloading, but it is not capable of the rapid rate of fire that field combat use demands.

Yes, that means there are NO semiautomatic assault rifles, no matter *what* they look like.

That bs question "what's an assault rifle" is an example of how to deflect an argument away from important and universal issues and get people talking about that trivial.
