Let's Try Again.

Okay, so about 3 years ago I had a grow journal on this site, but due to some unfortunate circumstances I was forced to destroy my baby after about 1 1/2 months of growth.

I have decided to try again as things are better and am currently germinating two (what I think are) Big Bud seeds. Wish me luck, I will keep the thread updated as I go.

Lol, I am not the oldest member, but I have been here for a while. I am glad to be back. I should have pics tomorrow of my new seeds if they germinate by then, I have good luck with 24 hour germination in the past.

Okay, so the seeds have not cracked yet but I got a good feeling about tomorrow. I decided while I wait I would try to clone my brothers AK-47 because it is dwindling and nothing I do seems to help it, so I want to save the poor girl (and yes, it is a definite girl). Anyhow, I made a root grow formula using 6 aspirin and some gelatin boiled in 4 1/2 quarts of water. I read that aspirin actually helps plants fight disease, so even if it doesn't promote root growth it should keep it from getting hurt for a while. My real question for all you cloners out there is how many lumens would be good to promote the clone's growth and keep it from dieing. Right now I have two 14 watt 5000 K (about 800 lumens each) cfl's on it as well as one 26 watt 2600K cfl on it (supplementary light) which is rated at about 1100 lumens. It is in a little humidity chamber I made today using a similar method to one I found here on rollitup that used two cups, except mine uses two bottom halves of dr. pepper bottles. It seems to be holding humidity well and the plant hasn't wilted yet (it has been about 4 hours).

Anyway, that is all I have today.

One more thing, if someone can help me out, are the medium to mogul lamp base adapters safe to use? I don't know how they work, are they just a simple one size to another size wired adapter or is there some sort of mechanism that allows a standard light base to use mogul base bulbs? I am wondering this because I do not have the money to buy those expensive HID grow lights and am thinking of using one or two 200 watt CFL (500-600 watt equivalent) and they use mogul lamp bases. The websites say that their mogul adapters can use up to 600 or so watts, but I am just wondering if they are safe.

Thanks for stopping by and any help.

Pics to come.

Well here I am 12 hours later and the clone still looks great. Seeds still waiting to germinate. That's all for now.

Okay 1 out of the 2 big bud seeds has cracked, but the root is only about 1mm long so it will probably be ready to plant tonight. My clone still hasn't wilted although somehting is troubling me about it. Two of the leaves have brown circular spots right in the middle of the leaf. They aren't dry, the humidity is great inside of my clone capsule (that's what I'm calling it. lol). If anyone can help that will be great, I will post pics in a minute.

Okay, here is a picture of the spots, they show up a little white and faded on my cam, and the bottle doesn't help, but you still should be able to see them.

Thanks but I am really hoping someone can identify the problems with my clone. It's day two, and if I can get it to make it to day 12 or so, after it takes root, I can cut those leaves off. But the way it is looking, this might spread through the whole clone (started on one leaf). Please and thank you.

my clones are wilting like crazy...is this normal for 1st day of cutting? and sorry i honestly have no idea what it could be, but i had some clones before with similar problems, but it grew out of it after i gave it a good watering and transplanting. i would say hold in there, and just wait it out and hopefully it wont spread.

From what I heard the plants do wilt (mine didn't) on day one and then spring back later in day one or day two. This is a really touchy operation and I really think that unless you have laboratory conditions it isn't possible to be 100% accurate. I wish you the best of luck with your clones. I am more excited about my big bud seeds, I am going to grow them as mother plants (maybe just one of them) and use them for clones for a ScrOG.

And so my baby has taken her (let's hope) first step into the world. I will be planting her in a couple of minutes, but here is a pic for you all to enjoy. This is 1 of 2 big bud seeds I have, I am still waiting on the other to stick its head out.1st steps.jpg

Well, still waiting on the other seed to pop. Gonna have a bunch of mix chronic seeds here in a few days as well. I am aiming for 5 or so plants this grow. I planted my one seed that popped and am anxiously awaiting her (hopefully once again lol) arrival into the world. My clone is slowing getting worse, still lots of green and I am crossing my fingers hoping that it might take root before it dies. More updates to come.

Well, not gonna be getting the seeds after all, so I will just have to hope that these two seeds I have are female. Got a new lighting setup to go with my fluorescents. My seed has sprouted (a little lol) and should be tall tomorrow. I will post pics tomorrow after the seedling is taller than the soil.

Okay, I am a little worried. The other seed which showed no signs of cracking (even last night) literally exploded today. I am afraid that it might not live if I plant it because the root got too long and it started to cast off the seed casing. Let me know what you think, I am going to plant it as usual and hope it works.

Try planting it so the two cotyledons are not covered with soil. That's a tiny little tap root, I know, but try anyway. Just gotta keep going forward till you can't anymore.
