The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced. If the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt, people must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance. – Marcus Tullius Cicero, 55 BC

The people of the various provinces are strictly forbidden to have in their possession any swords, bows, spears, firearms or other types of arms. The possession of these elements makes difficult the collection of taxes and dues, and tends to permit uprising. – Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Japanese Shogun, August 29, 1558

Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest. – Mahatma Gandhi, in Gandhi, An Autobiography, p. 446

We are living in a sick society filled with people who would not directly steal from their neighbor but who are willing to demand that the government do it for them. – William L. Comer

What's *just* has been debated for centuries but let me offer you my definition of social justice: I keep what I earn and you keep what you earn. Do you disagree? Well then tell me how much of what I earn *belongs* to you – and why? – Walter Williams

Liberals believe government should take people's earnings to give to poor people. Conservatives disagree. They think government should confiscate people's earnings and give them to farmers and insolvent banks. The compelling issue to both conservatives and liberals is not whether it is legitimate for government to confiscate one's property to give to another, the debate is over the disposition of the pillage. – Walter Williams

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains set lightly upon you; and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen. – Samuel Adams

If you want government to intervene domestically, you're a liberal. If you want government to intervene overseas, you're a conservative. If you want government to intervene everywhere, you're a moderate. If you don't want government to intervene anywhere, you're an extremist. – Joseph Sobran (1995)

Ayn Rand

To say "I love you" one must first be able to say the "I."
Ayn Rand

Run for your life from any man who tells you that money is evil. That sentence is the leper's bell of an approaching looter.
Ayn Rand

So you think that money is the root of all evil. Have you ever asked what is the root of all money?
Ayn Rand

The welfare state reduces a citizen to a client, subordinates them to a bureaucrat, and subjects them to rules that are anti-work, anti-family, anti-opportunity and anti-property … Humans forced to suffer under such anti-human rules naturally develop pathologies. The evening news is the natural result of the welfare state. – Unknown

I'm in favor of legalizing drugs. According to my values system, if people want to kill themselves, they have every right to do so. Most of the harm that comes from drugs is because they are illegal.

Asking liberals where wages and prices come from is like asking six-year-olds where babies come from. – Thomas Sowell

Every movement that seeks to enslave a country, every dictatorship or potential dictatorship, needs some minority group as a scapegoat which it can blame for the nation's troubles and use as a justification of its own demand for dictatorial powers. In Soviet Russia, the scapegoat was the bourgeoisie; in Nazi Germany, it was the Jewish people; in America, it is the businessmen. – Ayn Rand

All the fiery rhetoric of the Founders was directed at a "tyrant" who taxed his subjects at a rate of about three percent. Today, we in "the land of the free" are taxed at about 50 percent when you add federal, state, and local taxes. What kind of government would do this? A dictatorship would. – Doug Newman

Ann Rand, that Nazi Bitch? Go figure. I guess I should start posting pages of Carl Marx to balance the frey, wait, I'm not that childish, I get it. You Libertarians are all about leave me the fuck alone. I just want to keep my money and my freedom, you commies go pound sand. Oh if it were so simple. Unfortunately, we all live in a society, a society that should be concerned about the plight of all, not just the wealthy looking out for their wealth. Whether or not you are religious, you could learn from the sayings of Jesus, the original socialist. "You all will be judged on how you have treated the least of you".

Government is force.
Jesus wants us to give because we want to
not because we are being forced.
Jesus wouldn't take, he would ask us to give.

There is a reason why I avoided Ayn Rand it wasn't because I think she was a nazi
More like a robot, like Data from Star Trek. She wasn't wrong so much as missguided
she didn't believe in helping someone just to help them, I do.
She was a real thinker, but it seems to me she lost a little of her humanity.

My government will not have to stand before God
and answer to him for its sins, I will.
The US will not be judged as a collective but as individuals.
Don't sit there and tell me that I have some moral obligation to pay for Abortion.
My own councel will I keep on what is right not government.

Since I am being forced, against my will, to give to the welfare state, will I still go to heaven?

Well, assuming that

1. There is a God
2. That there is a Heaven

I don't think God is actually going to declare it as a point in your favor that you did what you were forced (even if it was "good.")

On the other hand, if you did more than what you were forced to do by the state for others then of course it will be counted in your favor.

:: shrugs ::

Or there might just be Kharma, in which case doing it because you are forced does not grant you any good Kharma, but does grant those that are forcing you bad Kharma.

Definitely have to agree with your opinion Ilkhan. It would seem that she chose to go to the opposite extreme of what the Soviet Union had, and go so far towards individual liberty and complete lack of empathy for her fellow man that she was not able to understand that in the end her pure objectivism would be just as bad as the socialism/statist system.

Though, it is also possible that she was just going for that position in her books. It is hard to actually judge her as a person with out knowing her as such. Judging a person by what is primarily their external face (such as books that they wrote) ignores the fact that that is just a facet of themselves that they have chosen to expand and expose to the rest of the public.
