About 5 years ago I quit my job with benefits to go into business for myself and in the process got insured on my own with a health savings plan and some life insurance to help my family in case of a tragedy. When you get on a plan like this they usually make you take a blood test, I did and when the insurance company got the results they wanted to charge me, a non tobacco user, the tobacco users rate because, I'm assuming, they found thc in my system. The tobacco users rate wasn't that much more and I could see why they wanted to do this. Well a couple years later I find myself in the same exact scenario purchasing insurance with a different company and paying the smokers rate.Since I have dropped all of those policy's and my wife has gotten a job with U of M and has a good benefit package. When we applied for the life insurance I was denied because I have a history in thier database they said of drug use. After a couple of emails stating I was a mm patient they requested documents and still denied me. I think its pretty funny that with knowledge and facts today the insurance companies will insure a tobacco user with no problem but not a marijuana user. Compare the mortality rates of the two and you will see a large difference, there must be a profit in death.
So, does anyone know who will insure a stoner like me?
