Light advice! 1000w for 8x4? How shitty?

Honestly, I know I need a 1800w of light for 32sqft. That is optimal. But how bad is it to veg and flower with a 1000w in an 8x4 space? Anyone ever try it out. I'm guessing my yields and quality might be lower, much lower. I'm pretty bummed about that. But the person who set my grow tent up is convinced 1000w is enough for that space. Not to mention I have 19 clones in 3gallon pots filling up the room. 4 of those clones have been vegging for 6 weeks already. I just threw them in with the 15 clones I started because I don't have another tent for flower yet. Side note: I would of planted in 5gallon pots but all I could find were 3g. Any thoughts on if that will affect my yield as well. I figured more plants, lots of LST, long veg time (6 weeks), long flower time (11 weeks) while using a 1000w light in an 8x4 for 19 plants should be decent? I'm using fox farm ocean forest soil and fox farm nut trio. Any advice for a somewhat newbie? First harvest on my own. I want to produce only the best.

Depending on the reflector you will likely have optimum lighting for about 6 feet of the 8. Just utilize the ends for the younger plants.

3 gallon pots should be fine. I use them for 4 to 6 oz plants but it took a lot of practice before I yielded that well. I got about 2 oz for almost 2 years of perpetual growing first. But you have a strong light.

However. Healthy vigorous plants will be quite crowded with 19 in there. I like 4 per light in my room. And I use 2 600's for the space you have. Well 3.5' x 7'. You will have to feel this one out a bit.

Thankyou. I defiantly have some feeling out to do. Just hoping I can learn from others mistakes so I don't have to make them. I will cut down to 12 next batch. If you don't mind explaining how you yield 2.5 pounds in 3 gallons with 8 plants? Sounds like an amazing yield.

If some are small and some mature just flower them all together and work it out as they grow. Get creative. Stake and tie branches. Bend plants. Use stands to even canopy. Just fit it all together. Watch and learn. And plan better next time.

You need more light

ideally you want another thowie in there, why can't you just tell whichever guy set u up that you're thankful for his help and insight but you would really rather have an extra light?

One more light would do wonders for you with proper venting. A 25sgft area is an ideal coverage area for a 1000watt. Running 2 1000s over your 48 sqft is more ideal.

I'm going to be using a 1000W HID in an 8x4 tent in a while but bought a 6' light rail to spread the love around. Not cheap tho I figure the savings in electricity will pay for it after a few grows. A couple of 600s would maybe do a decent job but at 4x4' each the edges would be lacking full on light imo.

I just happen to have a 1000W MH ballast but no 600 so I just bought an EYE Hortilux conversion bulb for $170CDN that lets me run HPS light off the MH ballast. I also picked up a cheap PlantMax veg bulb for it but that was only $60. Wish that ballast was switchable for MH/HPS as the HPS grow lights are way cheaper but there isn't much better light than any Hortilux bulb. I'm still using a 400W Hortilux conversion bulb that gives me MH light from the HPS ballast and it still vegs great growth after 15 years.

Some truth in that old adage, You get what you pay for.

I would just use half of the tent to concentrate on rather than trying to spread the light out. Properly done, you can get more out of a single plant than two.

Another option would be to use a light mover.

You could also run 2x600's instead of a single 1k.
