Light burn on seedling?

My first indoor grow, had a mars hydro ts600 sitting about 40 cm above the seedling. I have since raised the light.

im growin in 70/30 coco and using canna nutes.
So far I’ve only fed them a light feed of a+b 0.8ml per litre and 2ml of Rhizotonic.

just want to confirm that this is some light burn as the leaves are lime green.

I usually don’t feed seedlings that young but you’re growing in coco, so maybe that’s necessary, I dunno. It looks OKish overall but the color is slightly off. Seems like growing in coco often results in problems, since it’s tough to get it all dialed in perfectly. That’s why I never use the stuff.

In coco you must always add cal-mag into your nutrient mix. It is ok to start feeding lightly like you have done but it is lacking Cal Mag and this is common problem with people in coco. Coco doesn't bond to nutrition like soil. It is an inert media which means there is nothing in it. You must feed the plant it's whole life after the first two leaves appear like you have done

Hey mate,

thanks for the quick response.
im using nutrified pre mix coco that says they have calcium buffered through it? I’m also using tap water which a quick google says the calcium levels in the tap water of my area is 4-6 milligrams per litre? Does this help?

do you think it is definately lacking calcium as my other plants that have just popped seem to be fine after having the light moved up?

All good man. Even if the mix contains Cal mag - the cal mag doesn't hold in the medium and likely washed out your first few irrigations. Tap water contains what I would consider trace minerals. Not enough to fuel a proper growth. I will always add calmag to my water no mater the circumtance if I am in coco. Unless I am using organics and hand dressing my coco with bone meal. Seedling is still young so it shouldn't need much - maybe foliar feed a light dose of Cal Mag, and raise the light; I do not use LED lights so I cannot provide a good answer to ur lighting question - I hope this helps good luck

Also, your medium looks a bit dry. Do not let coco dry out all the way, ever.

Thanks heaps mate. I’ll give it a few days and see how it goes if nothing changes I’ll feed it a light dose of cal mag!

Starting in a smaller container would have been a better choice.........maintaining the correct moisture level for a seedling in a large pot will be a challenge.

Coco basics:
Feed daily to run off.......this only applies to plants with established roots. That's why starting in a small pot is preferable.
Never give plain water.
Never let it get dry.
Calmag isn't always necessary depending on your coco, nutes and water source.......I never have to use calmag.

hey mate, thanks for the response.

I’m also under the impression this isn’t a calmag issue as I’ve read numerous times that seedlings usually don’t need to be fed until the 2nd week or so.

i use Canna coco nutes and pre buffered

in hindsight I should have used smaller pots,could this be an issue for the lighter coloured leaves?

Am I totally wrong in thinking that it is light burn?

Would it hurt to throw in some cal mag anyway?

if the plants in the picture were mine; I would not be concerned. I think ur doing great

keep it watered and keep looking after it. If the leaves continue lightening, you have an issue. Did you raise the light?
Smaller pots would not matter. Cannabis is naturally disposed to growing in the wide open earth. If you throw calmag at it and it doesn't need it - it could potentially hurt it yes

I’ve raised the light up to about 80cm above the seedling.

this is what she currently looks like.
Ive also attached a pic of her next to an auto I had germinated aswell.

Beautiful work. I like that you dive into the irrigation system already - I like your style

Thanks for the encouragement mate, funny background story, 15 years ago I actually use to work in a grow house for some local dudes. I was very young then and hadn’t actually smoked weed during that time. I didn’t have a very big hand in it all just helped with watering and setting up, I didn’t really care for it therefore never paid close attention to what was going on. now I smoke daily for my back pain so thought I’d get back into it myself, hence how I was able to set up the irrigation.

I figured if my 17 year old self with nothing but basic nutrient schedule written on a whiteboard could do it back then, then I could still do it now. however, I did not remember doing anything but adding nutes and ph balancing the water.. these days it feels like you need a degree for it.

anyway thanks heaps for the help mate, I’llbe continuing to give her a light feed and see how she goes!

Believe it or not mate, the wife has had these outside in the garden with no activity as of yet for the last month. we threw some into the grow tent, I gave it the same feed of canna nutes and some rhizotonic as the seedlings and the next day half of them has sprouted roots

I grow in soil under LED lights and give my plants CalMag once a week. What I learned, that under LED plants are more likely to have CalMag deficiency.

You'd of been better off starting seeds in jiffys or root riot plugs, a very light compost works great too, just fed on water for a week or 2. Then transplant on. It's probably a combo of overnute and too powerful lights. It's easy to mess up seedlings, I only start them under weak 50 - 100 w flouros if possible also.
