Light burning under DE after moving to flower room

Hey all- I have a couple questions. Moved plants from 600w MH into the bigger room where they veg for 2 more weeks and flower under 4 1000w DE's. I have them at 1000w and started showing some light burn so dialed them down to 750 then to 600w. They seem to be coming along ok. Garanimals and MAC1 showed more light burn than the black water. Anyhow. I have a lux meter on my phone. Says that the lux is around 12,000. Does anyone know the accuracy of a phone lux meter? I'm reading that veg and flower lux levels can be way higher than what I had and I'm not sure what caused the light burn... too much too fast? Any suggestions or tips on how people prevent this for my next round would be appreciated. I'm nervous to crank them up again but the lux is nowhere near what I'm reading they should be able to handle.

They're about 5 days into flower.

For white light (HID, SMD, CFL ... blurples not so much ) LUX meters on smartphones are accurate enough to give you an idea if there is too much or too little light. Won't give you pinpoint type numbers but should give you an indication if you are in the ballpark.

• The HPS LUX to PPFD conversion factor is .0122.
• 12000 LUX x .0122 = 147 PPFD.
• 147 PPFD x ( 12 x 3600 ) / 1000000 = 6.3 DLI

Based on your LUX reading, you are on the street next to the statue next to the parking garage next to the ballpark. DLI should be about 6 times higher.

Are your temps OK?

Yep. Temps are 77. RO is 40 to 60%. Nutes are H&G. Ph is good. It's definitely light burn. I just don't understand. Adding co2 but it's still low...around 900...Basically running 600w on them right now...perhaps going from 400w MH to 1000w hps was too much. They seemed fine at first...then about a week in the showed signs so I dialed them back. They're still eating and growing. My plan is to gradually increase wattage but I really wanna run them at full juice.

Your numbers look OK. You are probably right about the sudden increase in intensity. If I introduce the VEG blurples to the clones too early, they'll get fried. It's happened a few times - even with the gap at 3' above. 46 CFL watts for cloning to 260 blurple watts for VEGGING is a pretty big jump for the wee little ones.

That's what I'm hoping...do you start low and gradually increase? This is my 3rd round with the DEs. Learning curve for sure...last ones did fine. These not so much. I'm watching the new growth. I guess when I see no light burn for a few days I'll crank em up a little.

The learning curve is constant. I've been indoor growing for 10+ years and I still learn a thing or two with each crop.

Yes, I do step things up - in both the physical lighting and light intensity.

• Cloning is done with a single 23W CFL and when they have rooted, I'll add a second 23W CFL and grow them until I see a node open up. Or maybe a second node I get too lethargic ...
• They are then VEGGED with the 260 watt blurples. I will start them about 3' under the blurple and gradually lower until the canopy/light distance is 24" above. So if I didn't let them get big enough under the CFL, the blurples can overdo the little ladies - even at 3'.
• Flowering is with the 320 RSpec. I will turn down the RSpec to about 80%, which is about 260 watts and turn it up gradually. It's then a mix of raising the lights and/or dimming the potentiometer to keep the PPFD across the top of the canopy at the 930 umole/m2/s level.

10 x 20. 10 foot ceilings...4 3x6 beds in a rectangle in the center... I started with 6 1000w. Was wayyyyyyyy too much. Now I have 5 hanging like the 5 dots on a dice...I'm using 4 lights now and save the 5th for back up if and when things get crowded. The DEs are tricky. I've adjusted a lot...

It's a pita, but sometimes you have to treat them the way you "harden off" indoor seedlings to sunlight. Give them 30 min one day, a little more the next, etc. It can take a week to get them safely under a much stronger light.

I'll get this down then switch to LEDs and do it all again...lol

I had to Google blurple. I've been growing a long time but I'm a noob when it comes to lighting. So much cool stuff out there. Thanks everyone.
