Light cycle issues.

Hi first time grower and it's doing my head in. month old plants. Still very small.

I'm growing in soil outside and then bring them inside when the light falls.

indoors 600w MH.

I nearly fried my plants on the first night i brought them in.

Moved the light further back to about a meter.

They still don't seem happy. Greens are getting lighter.

Messed up the cycle last night and it got 24hrs light!! instead of the 20hr i had it on. (had trouble with the light and didn't flick the timer back!!)

What distance should this light be??

and Have i messed up the cycle or will it be okay to just switch back to 20/4???

Really starting to think that i just don't have the thumbs for this.

Don't get down on yourself, you will fuck up your first grow, if not you will absolutely destroy the second.
Most agree a fan blowing between the canopy and the light is a good idea. The light should be at least 18" (1/2 meter or so) away, for learning at least, you can play with that as you get better.
Light cycle is not an issue until you start to flower (or if you let them go dark for more than 12 hours). But try to keep it as consitant as possible.
Have you given them any nutrients?

had 30+ to sart with. 10 nutri burned. 10 burned from that first night of too close light. they are all by some miracle still alive.

the soil is a mix of compost and potting with about half a cup of 5:2:4. The idea was to just get them to show sex and then cuttings for full indoor hydro later. but thanks to me they've all gone through a lot of stress over the last week or so. Hoping some are still female when the time comes.

So a little worried about adding nutri after the burn. the temp at plant hight is 25C. and there is a light breeze flowing over them.
Still this morning (when i discovered yet another stuff up with that light still on) the plants weren't looking happy and seemed to be drying out. watered them and they backout in the day. The light is a sunmaster - cool deluxe - MH 600w.

1/2 meter seems too close since yesterday it was at a meter and still they weren't happy.

u will be ok. just try to avoid going from flower to vegg back to flower. it stresses the plants. u should be able fix the timer no problem. as long as they were still in vegg i dont see an issue. try to keep it constant tho. as for nutes. star 1/4th strength for a week or so till they get bigger then move to half strength then full. u cant give them full strength nutes if they r tiny cuz it will kill them. as for the light is it vented with glass and a fan or r u rockin it without ventalation?

one more thing whats ur ph at? ph will fry them too. should be between 5.5 and 6.5 since ur using soil i would get a soil ph meter. like $7.50 at walmart.

ph is something i'm looking into today. thought that soil would give me greater range. i tested the water for the indoor reservoir. it was about a 7. will correct water from now on in. don't have a wallmart ) but i think if i get the ph to the top measurement i should be fine for soil. two thin (pistols???) i guess are at the base of 3 plants nodes. is it too early to say female for sure?

I think i'll leave them in the soil for now and tamper no further than re-potting. Since i mixed nut with the soil (dumbest move ever). let nature and water do what they can for now.

there is only a intake and out-take in the room. the intake fan blows a very mild breeze over them. some leaves shake slightly. Still not sure about distance. 1 meter seems still too close. Now with the possible ph in the mix. i will pull it back just over a meter and correct water. then wait and see.

u just have to watch it. use ur hand to test the heat coming off of it. test at a few different distances. the point is to have it far enough that when u put ur hands above the plants it should be gently warm. if it gets to hot raise it and test agian. turn the fans off so u get a good idea of the heat from the light without the fans cooling the air in thew room already. u should get an idea in just a few minutes of screwing with it. also might want to look into a vented hood. my thousand watt is inches above the tops just becuz i have the fan drawing the hot air away from the bulb and out of the room. so i never have to worry about burning them. i can touch the glas and it warm to the touch instead of roasting hot.

wow. will definitely look into it.
just finished a balancing water. was shocked to see measurement of 7.4 with the kit.
watered them this morning but it's a very warm cloudless day.
so thinking about watering them tonight before indoor with the balanced 6.4 water. should i just flush all the pots with the new water or slowly introduce and wait?
