How high should a 400 watt hps light be for small shoots? I currently have it around a foot above the plants but I find it might be stressing the leaves slightly, also the soils drying quickly.
Mist the inside of the bottle with fresh water to keep it humid and this will allow you to bring your lights down a bit .
Seems that most people here ( myself included ) use CLF tubes for sprouts untill they establish roots ..might be worth considering that as an alternative ... That way you can get your light much closer without the heat .
Hi all thanks for the response. The shoots are now a week old, looking quite healthy, but one is slightly stressed. I dont have them in a propergator. I will raise the lgith now to two foot.
^That all depends on the type of soil(assuming that it's a soil grow) you're using. I use FF OF, and don't use any nutes at all, til the first week of bloom. They're 4-5 weeks old, and about 18" at that point,(and bushy, topped once ot twice) maybe a little more, and are in 3 gallon pots.
Standard spacing on lights is about 14-18in away from the lights atleast that is what I have found to be most common on RIU and about the nuts it does depend mine are about to go into flower and are doing well without nuts
The soil im using is biobizz mix soil (i've used the light mix for the babys) I've not transfered them into bigger pots as yet though for obvious reasons. I now hae the light at two foot and the soil doesnt seem to be drying. I'll post some pics up shortly.
I would say your safe to move them closer so they don't start streching like mine did if you move them closer make sure they don't start burning if so readjust
