Hi RIU,

Is there a time when light leak is not a problem?

We have seedlings in a room that is not light proofed. So during the 6 hour dark cycle there were definitely lights. The seeds are fem, and have been above soil for less than 3 days. They are going to be moved to a better room tonight.

Could this exposure already set them up for hermie status?

lol. So funny story we have a DIY veg set-up that is pretty sturdy and safe. well ventilated etc. etc. But we are away today and didn't want to go 24/7 for the first day away from it. We get back and it will have been on 12 hours with no supervision (did a test about a third of this time yesterday).

Phew that's good. With all the variables to try and control for. Male/female/hermie is one that hopefully is still a non-issue.

12 hours of darkness will initiate flowering in vegging plants. anything other interruption doesnt seem to matter.
I've seen grow lights that dim to dark and brighten back up for power savings, and know someone who swears by an on off cycle all day and night for his vegging plants.
if an accident happens normalizing the schedule will reveg sometimes with no notice but

once in the flowering while an extended dark period doesnt seem to affect my plants in the past a light interruption during lights out can be bad I hear, could initiate a reveg in flower.

We had a bit of trouble going from moist towel to peet pellets. The root burrowed between paper plies. And a surgery needed to take place to free the root. Like most noobs every step so far appears to be presenting us with new challenges.

They won't Hermie untill flowering I promise

Even if u intend on putting them outside do 24 hour lights for a jump start on growth if u are purposefully running 12\12from seed for an early bird then no need to worry ntill late flowering

Questions we have like a million... Seriously we do have a couple questions about:

pH meters (selecting a good but not expensive one)
Coco and nutrients
Nutrients

Just some small things. The plants have not been put into the coco yet largely because we don't understand / have a pH meter handle on the nutrients yet. yes yes some serious cart before the horse logic going on here....

pH meter are good but if you learn about nutrient etiquette it isn't really needed for a novice grower but is a good thing to use get have ifur plants ever have problems. With the mycorrhizae and microbes on top of Fox Farm ocean Forest all u really need is in the soil. Do not over water it is a mistake often made
