My flowering room is about 10 X 10 and I have the light rail 5 that hold two lights. I currently have 1000 watt lights about 8 inches from the tops. I was wondering for dte sake if it was overkill and two 600 watt lights would be better. Thanks

E Kae I would stick with two 1000W to get 10' width. You could get away with two 600W with 10' x 6' for two 10' x 3' runs, maybe even 10' x 8' for two 600W, but IMHO 5' width is too much for a 600W to get max results. There will be poor lighting on the edges and slightly less so in the middle.

If you do go the two 600W route get a light spreader. Would be good with the two 1000s as well.

You'd be at 12 watts per square foot (average); my 600W in 8'x3' gives me 25W/sq'; a stationary light should give 50W/sq' HID.

If you want to experiment get one 600W and run a 1K/0.6K grow, compare the two sides. You could even put up a divider in the middle of the room so there's no spill over from the 1000W over to the 600W side.

I'm designing an adapter for some LED lights I ordered over the weekend, 360W (4 x 90W UFOs with 30 x 3 watt LEDs for 8'x3' - it will be 15W/sq' to start and I'll reduce the LEDs to the minimum PAR watts needed - a PUR Spectrometer would have cost at least 5K, no sensors in the nm range I want, so I went with a PAR meter. I'll post a thread after I get the setup going, it would work well in your 10'x10'.

How do you like the Lightrail 5.0?

E Kae are you from NYC? I once knew an E Kay from NYC but he seemed too Ikeman, to straight laced to end up here.

The ALL NEW Super-Spreader® combines common sense and innovation with advancements in effective surface technology to produce a truly Super Light Spreader! The new design is attractive, lightweight and easy to install. The 'Spreader Heads' are made from 97% reflective glass-coated aluminum with a prismatic micro-textured surface.
This incredible alloy is super cool, very reflective and creates even light distribution. The prismatic surface reflects and redirects light in a selective 4-way pattern for incredible results!

How & Why They Work! The design of the Super Spreader® is based on logic and simplicity. All horizontal reflectors create an over hot, over bright spot directly beneath the lamp. The Super-Spreader® spreads the excess light and heat proportionally to all areas of the grow room (especially the corners and edges which are often under lit). This creates even light and more harmonious growing conditions throughout the entire grow room.
