Light Penetration

i think what you may have heard was that as far as lumen per watt output, the 600 is more efficient than the 1000. but the 1000 will give you more penetration. distance the light is away from the plant will determine how far into the plant the light will penetrate. this chart is distance for light and not heat. so a non air cooled light will need to be farther away than a cooled light.

I Dont read charts I go with the flow...

"Penetration" is simply the distance you have to move your light meter away from the bulb before the reading drops below whatever you consider being "too little light" to grow. PAR simply reflects the spectrum...the light within that PAR spectrum will behave in the same way as light measured using lumens (ie it will obey the inverse square law).
Lumens are the total amount of light available, inside and outside the par spectrum.
Didn't say par is exactly penetration...I said "the par..." meaning the reading on the meter, which is the intensity(PPFD) of the light coming only from the within par spectrum. Yes more lumens will give more penetration but the light that is penetrating is not all useful. My point was par light and the meter reading are a more accurate representation of amount of light that will penetrate your canopy. Agreed, inverse square law always applies, double distance from source and only get 1/4 the intensity.

The deeper I get into LED's the more I have learned about light and using it efficiently.

Errr.....Not quite. Luminous flux is the total of all light frequencies. Lumens is the flux, adjusted for human eyesight. PAR is flux adjusted for plant absorption...not that it's a big deal....I'm just nitpicking the detail now!

I tend to judge stuff by eye anyway. My LEDs seemed bright enough when I turned them on, and they were, cos the plants loved em ;) That's the best test of any grow light after all...

^^^yep...It would take us two pages to post all the info in a logical and detailed way. like you say adjusted for the human eye, and it is a big deal if you are a plant, that is why I getting away from lumens and focusing on optimizing the par output. Lumens are for humans. Fun chat man!
