Now then,

My six plants have finally shown there sex. Three females, YAY and three males, (which have been chopped). Now with the males gone I have more room and can put my light alongside the plants instead of above them.

I was just wondering what everyone thought was best?

I think it's best to put the light close above the plant rather than to its side. That way it grows up. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah I was thinking number 2 aswell, but i thought if the light was at the side of the plants it might encourage better bud growth. I'm only using a 250watt Cfl.

the problem is that the light wouldn't hit the plant evenly. if you had a few cfl's it would be a good idea to put some on the sides.

if you top the plant it will become bushier with multiple growth tips at the top, and then the light at the top is more efficiently covering multiple buds. moving a single light just changes which buds are getting light. as stated earlier, more lights is another option

out of lack of room, my plants are next to my light, most times my plants finish higher than my light but i cant raise the light in my room so i let the plants go along side of the light.

Hey What's UP???,,,,,Say Bro, In Your Diagram, You Are Hanging Your CFL Vertical???,,,,,,,The Light Come's From The Side's Of The CFL's,,Not The End, So You Would Be Better Off With It Like Pictuure #2,,,,,,If You Hang Your CFL Horizontal, You Will Be Better Off With It Above The Plant, Like Picture #1!!!!,,,,,,Like Was Already Suggested, If You Are Just Using CFL's, Add Some Side Lighting,,,It Will Help Out!!!,,,,,Best Of Luck!!bongsmiliebongsmiliebongsmilie

Yeah I've been hanging it vertically because I had no reflector. The decision has been made for me now anyway as my plants have outgrown my grow room, there coming on for 36 inches tall. Can't believe how well there doing with one 250watt CFL. So I I guess the lights are going along side them then, lets hope it works just aswell.

No Not at all. I've kept the light as close to the tops as I can the whole way through growing and there doing amazing. About an inch in height between each node. I Just tried to get the set up as perfect as I could with the limited light and the plants seem to be flourishing. Good ventilation and some home made Co2. Seems to work for me.
