Light Sockets

Right now I'm on my second grow with 2 plants. The only light I'm using is one 122 cm T8 Shoplight, The lights of america brand. The plants are 3 weeks old so they are outgrowing this light.

I want to switch to CFLs, but my question is I see just plain light sockets hanging from their wires in alot of people's pictures. Can you just buy these or are people bustin up their lamps? I'm talking about just the socket itself that the bulb screws into and the wire that plugs into the wall nothing else. Where can you get those and how much are they usually?

get some lamps, cheap ones from a thrift store or such. Take them apart and that is what you'll have. inside the body is the wire going to the light fixture part.

I live in the UK, so things may be different, but here you can buy bulb holders in pretty much any hardware or DIY store. They don't cost much at all.

Thanks alot guys, after doing the research I decided on doing just that, taking apart some really cheap lamps.

Can anyone suggest a method for a good DIY reflector for plaint light sockets.

How cheap a lamp are you talking? You can buy a socket at a hardware or home improvement store for 2-3 bucks.
As for the rack - here's a pic of mine, I made 12 bulb racks but you could do less, depending on what you want and how many plants you want to grow. My "reflector" for these is just cardboard wrapped in an emergency blanket.

You can buy large clamp reflectors for 10-12, the best for cfls. You can also get low price trouble lights and take the wire cage off.

Wow that's a sick set up. I'm only doing 2 plants right now, so I won't need that many. I was thinking about checking out Home Depot, but do they usually carry sockets that are prewired to the plug already? I found lamps at wal mart for like 5-6 bucks that I could easily dimantle.

To illegal Smile: where can you usually buy those reflectors and what exactly are trouble lights?
