Lighting Question

This is my second post, and again, its a question post. I was just wondering how far i can out my plants away from my light. I'm leaving for a week or two and i don't want them to start touching. Don't worry i have friends to water them. I'm just curious as to how many feet i can put between my plants and the light before i go and have the light still generate enough lumen to stimulate constant healthy growth. FEEDBACK PLEASE. MORE THAN ONE OPINION PLZZZZZ. Thanks oooh snap, its a 250 watt sunlux hps. thanks again. also, getting these lil grey spot on some leaves, is that a defficiency of something?

Depends on the light, floros/cfl's can be 2'' from the plants while HIDs can be 12''+ it varies depending on the plants stage and environment I believe.
But all and all you can do the hand test. Stick your hand above the top of your plants/tallest plant for about 1 minute. If it burns your hand it will burn the plant. It helps having a fan blowing inbetween the light and your plants, blows some of the radient heat away

yeah, its 250 hps, i dont want to know how close i can put it, i would like to know how far i can put it, with it still having a good lumen count on the canopy. thanks anyways

Well from what I hear every 12'' you keep the light away from your plant will reduce your yield by half. Its hard to tell you how much you will get because of the strain, conditions, and whatnot. But keep in mind the farther away your light is the more the plant stretchs, the less bud sites will grow.

It really is a bad idea to leave your plants alone for a week or two. If you raise the light, it might make them grow faster, they will want to reach for the light and get stretchy. I mean, you can't expect them to stay the same size for a week or two, you know?

take your hand and slowly lift it to the light, when you start feeling heat, thats as close as you want your plants to a hps they could grow into floros with no harm done. but anyway. when you start to feel the heat bring your hand back 5 or 6 inches thats the farthest you want to go away. your boy may, just may have to move the lights. but you could move the light up before you leave and stack em on books, so all your boy has to do is remove a book. retard proof. he doesnt have to mess with your shit .

a common mistake people make is to give seedlings nutes. they dont need shit till about 4 or five nodes. i have had a lot of luck using miracle grow dirt. then i give m more nutes only when they go into flower, water em and let em grow on there own for about a month , then if you have miracle grow dirt you dont have to worry about giving them anything. until flower.

my light is ghetto rigged, its also a bare bone ballast which only has a certain reach (the wires). So i wouldn't want my friends screwing with the set up. They may move it too far, wires can lose their connection and then the lights off and my friend you'd be left clueless of what to do.

the reason you dont want anyone touching the lights is. if that friend isnt around the grow all the time he will not have a feel for your whole set up. which is important. and if he messes with the lights and they fall and either burn down your house or kill your babys youll be kicking yourself in the ass forever. you know how it is, you know the position of every wire , fan , light , mylar strip or whatever else is in your spot. you know it like the back of your hand. if the friend doesnt know the set up like you do then he has no right to be touching your shit. these plants are "weeds", but they can be pretty touchy sometimes. i just personally dont want anyone touching my stuff unless they are teaching me something and know the equiptment.

thats why i don't want people messing with it(so my house doesn't burn down). Like i said, if buddy were to pull the light the wrong way, there a good chance a connection will be lost in the process, leaving a live wire sitting around.
