its all up to the size space you have, you could put 1 plant under 1000w or you could put 12, its all in the space.

%100 right Space and amount of plants determines light. not the other way around. Plan it out and get back to us and we will give you our personal opinion.

i got a 400w MH and a 1000w HPS. i was just wondering how many plants you suggest growing under this ammount of light?
If too have both the 400 MH and 1000 HPS ... my idea is to have the 400 MH unit for my 6 seedlings/veg station along with (2) CFL units emiting 6500K of lumens as side lighting using clamps ... I plan on using my 1000 HPS Unit for the grow station with additional (4 CFLs ) sidemounted or in addition to nuture the 6 plants as they flower ... I will be trying to obtain a range of 2700K to 3000K lumens in the entire flowering stage ... Hope this helps out mate :-)

lots of variables but a general rule of thumb is that a 1000 watt light is good for up to a 5x5 area.
I would set up a 4x4 tent for the hps for flowering and a 3x3 tent for veg. or as close to that as the room allows

maybe consider whether you are gonna do a normal grow, whether you will train the plants, how big you will grow them, if you will scrog or sog or things like this?
I have a 1.2m x 1.2m space, my next grow will be a 1m x 1m scrog with 4 plants.
once you know your lights and your room size, then you can decide on the way you will grow, and the most appropriate number of plants, IMO.
