lighting requirements for pollen donor male?

Possibly a bit basic for the breeders section of the Advanced forum, but you can dress me down after...!

When i germinate my regular seeds and select males for pollen collecting, will they be able to produce viable pollen under poor lighting, ie fluro tubes i have knocking about or do i neec to treat them like my females, under the warm glow of an hps?!?

I'm prepared to buy a ballast if nesessairy, but since stretch or bud size won't be a consideration, will a few shitty fluros get me a couple of brushes worth of pollen?

Thanks all.

Well i could get viable buds from a plant under CFL's, so do not imagine it unfeasible to grow your males under them as well.

Sure, i didn't mean to sound like an hps snob! Sorry tip!

The lights i have are a selection of random sign lights, odd bulbs etc. Like i use for getting clones started. Just wanted to know whether a male will flower well enough to produce pollen under let's call it 'sub standard' lighting.

oh yeah bro, theyll flower for you under less than 6 hours a day of cfl (first hand experience) i like to stress test the shit out of males so light dep is always high on my to do list and i can say with 100% certainty yes theyll be fine just make sure everything else is all good and in maybe a week longer than normal youll have pollen
