Lighting

Currently im running 2 600watt hps lights in a 5x5 tent over 6 ladies. Getting good results on top, but wondering if I should hang another light or 2 vertically on the sides to promote flowering on the lower canopy.

Note- this it's my first grow and I'm still learning so I did no training of my plants at all, and an in the 3rd week of flower

I wouldn't. How tall do these get? 2 600s in a 5x5 is a lot of light. Gotta b something else happening.

There's nothing wrong with my plants just trying to promote more growth on the lower branches that don't seem to get as much light. Wasnt really sure if it wouldbe beneficial or not

And yes skill level is minimal right now, but I'm reading everything I can find pertaining to what I currently have going. Asking questions to see what ornery people have done, and if their techniques have worked pre will work for me.

Any criticism, positive or negative is ok with me as I'm still learning, like I said. I really just want to maximize the yield of my plants but for a first grow I'll be happy if I get anything good. Not trying to sell anything, strictly for personal use, but still want to grow to the best of my ability

What is the distance from lights to canopy and are there two reflectors or two bulbs in one reflector?
Air cooled or open reflectors?

I have my lights roughly 18 inches above my plants but I can't raise any higher, I'm going to slightly bend my plants over (just slightly) to give me a little more distance
I have 2 separate lights with reflectors and internal ballast
Attached is the 2 lights im running right now

Here are two pics of what I have growing right now. Taken about 4 days ago
These are just starting, give em time. Got more than enough light. May want to try less plants next time, but more training. Get alot more tops that way. Learning how to use ph, correctly. Or implementing the use of microbes can go a long way. Learn to grow roots. How to water and feed properly. These are the things for new growers to focus on. Game changers! Best of luck.

Yeah im still learning, trying my hand at nutes, jesting koolbloom and floranova in small amounts, plants seem to love it right now, only watering with nutes every 2-3 waterings, ph with nutes is floating between 6.3-6.6 and have to adjust the ph in fresh water as mine tests around 7.3 currently.

That is a lot of light. I think it's genetics. Some plants have productive lower branches and some just don't.
Im getting good growth on lower branches but not nearly as good as up top (naturally)
Not sure if I should just trim the lower branches to focus more on top or try to get more light penetration on the lower canopy

And im not going to be growing 6 plants again, atleast until im better equipped to handle them and give them ladies the space the desire. I think ill go 3 or 4 next time around.

1200w is more than enough light. To be honest I've never seen such lanky girls with access to that much light. Bigger thicker stalks mean bigger yield. Next grow just put a couple fans in there and aim them directly at the plant to simulate wind for nice thick branches. You can also veg at 20/4 to slow the stretch.

Yeah this first time grow I just followed what my father in law suggested, no training and 24hr veg, under 2 125 watt cfl lightsthey are roughly 4-4.5 feet tall after 2 week's in flower. Next crop will be trained to be shorter with more tops. Going to do 3-4 plants with either SOG or SCROG to get more tops
