I have a 1000 watt hps and a 600 watt hps in a 5x4 area i only for flowering both are adjustable digital ballasts the 600 is turned to the 600 setti g and the 1000 is turned to the 750watt setting. Is that too much for the area im using? I have now 7 plants in the space in bud theyre medium sized 3ft -3.5 ft tall. Any advice I'd dang appreciate

yes, you have a lot more light that can be used efficiently, you are spending a lot more on electricity that is needed. Just one or the other, since it is 5ft in one direction probably the 1000W.

Depends on if its to much light, or not.
To use all that light efficiently, one needs all the airflow possible, or CO2 in a properly enclosed area. Most use of CO2 is totally wasted. Even the smallest opening, the Co2 will go out and not be used.
But if you have proper ventilation, and the temps at the CANOPY, dont go over 84f, best 78f-80, but 84 is livable, I think youll be good.

A 1000w Hortilux HPS which is the standard for a single ended HID bulb, is rated for a 4 x 4 area, and has been for over 20 years.

Thats 62w/Sq-ft in a 4 x 4 area. 16 sq/ft.

Youre using a 20 sq/ft area, so at your current use of 1350w x 20 sq/ft, puts you right around 67w sq/ft.

I myself would run the 1000w HPS, using a Hortilux 1000w HPS bulb, and dim the 600w down to 400w, also using a Hortilux 600w HPS bulb.
I also keep fans/airflow going 24/7 including flowering. I want to see ALL the plants slightly moving. All the time.
