Lighting?

Hello i am starting to grow for the first time and i was just wondering what kind of lights i should use during the veg stage and what wattage of bulb i should use...note i am only growing 9 plants and dont have alot of $$$ :sad: iwas thinking of using 6500k CFLs but i just want to get some advice from people who have done this before, also i am not doing this in a grow room, i have my setup behind my futon, Thanks everyone and stay blazed :leaf:

Whats the size of the area?
Are these 9 plants indica? Sativa? Hybrid?
How are you gonna grow them? SOG? Scrog? Topped? Trimmed?
Whats your media? Soil? Hydro?

You gotta give up some details if you want any kind of intelligent answer my friend.

Well of course the more lumens the better

You can go with cfl`s for veg no problem really , i use cfl`s for veg also then i put them under my hps to flower

6500k for veg and what ever watt you can afford , but at least the 26 watts , i use 45 watt cfls

2700k when you flower

get you some Y splitters so you can have multiple cfl`s hanging

well its 1 gal pots all prety close

im pretty sure its sativa

probably going to just let them gro but i might top them

and im using soil

right now i only got 1 plant in the veg stage and i have 1 2700k 23w cfl on it but i am going to the garden store this weekend so by the time i get all of the stuff all nine of my plants should have sprouted but thanks for your answer man ill try to get me some 26w and some y splitters...what kind of bulb do you reccomend for flowering?

Sativas love lots of light man. You need to aim for atleast 50watts per square foot.

If we assume each pot is a foot you need 450watts at minimum to get a good/decent yield off 9 sativas.

You didnt give your area specs so I can only picture what you want to do but with those stats and numbers CFLs really wont get done, what needs to be done. Look into getting a 400 watt CMH setup at a bare minimum. CMH will provide both blue and red spectrum's for veg/flower. You could go MH for veg and then HPS for flower but thats gonna up your cost by an extra bulb.

how much is that going to run me tho? and is it something i can sleep next to without getting cancer or something idk

i can get the bulb but imma have to make the ballast lol a light socket and a turkey pan should do lol
now if i say put a piece of wood and line one side with aluminum foil and lean it on the back of my futon would that do anything?
EDIT: nvm imma have to find a cheaper ballast
