Lights are killing me!

so i have been trying to find the right lights to use and i dont know if im making things more complicated then they are or what but i would like to use hps/HID lights but where do i get the fixtures? i know i cant put them on a regular lamp but is there a store i can buy them from? i have been looking online but i cant accurately look if i dont know what im looking for so bassicaly i just want to know what do i screw my bulbs in? and where to find it. all responses are appreciated. thanks

How old are you BTW?

HID lamps use a Mogul (oversize) socket, To run HIDs you need the trinity: ballast, socket+hood, lamp.
Hydroponic shops (in realspace or online) are pretty much the place to shop those. cn

Can I suggest starting with CFLs?

Running an HID lamp comes with extra costs. Fans, filters, vented hoods/cool tubes, ducting, sound control (i.e. insulated ducting, fan speed controllers). My fans, filter, light alone cost me around 400-500$.You'll also need a place to vent the hot air from the HID lamp.

Personally, I would start with CFLs, and that's what I did. Now that I know more about growing, I stepped it up. An entire CFL setup will only cost you around 100 bucks or less, depending on how you want to do it.

to answer smokey im 18, and i firstly wanted to start with cfl's but i was told so much that they were shit and to use hps but if cfl's truly work that would be the set up im going for.

Whoever says they're "shit" probably didn't use them correctly. No doubt that HID would be better, but I don't want you to spend all that money to POSSIBLY screw up the first couple grows, not saying you WILL but just in case. Practice makes perfect. I would suggest that you check out the CFL forum.
