update:
i switched from 6500k bulbs to alternating 420nm/460nm (violet/blue) and they work great seeing change in growth from morning to night

I grew lion's tail outside two yrs ago. They were giants. It is a annual for me and the plants reached 8'+ by end of summer. Loves all day full sun.

5 days growth under the 420 460s

They really took off after I added another fan and again when I pointed the first one right at them

those are 3000ks at the start but only used them for a day or so

Thanks for the comments. The lion's tail will be going outside in the spring into full sun. Pinto beans in soil are finishing and containers will be used to start tomatoes, bell peppers, and pepperoncini peppers for the outdoor garden. Ebb and flow veggies are coming along great except for a few dark spots on the beans and purple pepper leaves which read are from the sugar in the nutrient solution.

Nutrient solution: 5ml B.C. Boost; 5ml B.C. Bloom; 1 gram epsom salt; 1 gram white sugar (turns out to be a little high), per gallon 734 ppm
Lighting: T5HO 24w 2' x8 (4 460 nm blue aquarium bulbs; 4 420nm violet aquarium bulbs)
Ebb and Flow: 2'x2' tray with 7.5 gallons hydroton; 185 GPH pump; cycles 15min flood every 4 hours, 28gallon black tote with 15 gallons in it
Surroundings: 4x4x6.5 grow tent with replacement skeleton made of pvc, box fan, tower fan, inline fan exhaust turned down

max 'daytime' e-use 420watts!

some theory behind the color scheme here

I'm thinking of doing this:
with t5 2' 8bulb

veg 18hrs
4x460nm (aquarium blue)
4x6500k (grow)

View attachment 2980153View attachment 2980154View attachment 2980155

bloom 12hrs (maybe 16 or 14)
4x420nm (aquarium violet)
4x3000k (bloom)

if you take a look both bulbs i want to use for grow, they are high in the chlorophyll B response range
likewise both bulbs i want to use for bloom are high in the chlorophyll A range

i think i might be on to something

the aquarium bulbs complement the spectrum that already exists in the 380-500 range on the regular bulbs. 3000 and 6500 has been historically used for bloom and grow respectively. 3000 is tuned to chlorophyll A and 6500 is tuned to chlorophyll B. since the spectrum is choppy i'm using the aquarium bulbs to fill in the spectrum. i'm using both regular and aquarium since the aquarium bulbs have no reds which plants need to grow vertically, or so i think, we'll see. this will be under a 2'x2' ebb and flow with 5ml B.C. Boost 5ml B.C. Bloom 1g epsom salt per gallon. i'll be running beans (yes actual pinto) to make sure this thing works. this is all in a 4x4 tent with 176ish cmf exhaust & box fan. i got the tent turned upside down so the exhaust holes are on the top, i like it better that way. PICS... SOON

credit: all this comes from watching a video on this thread of someone getting the best growth i've seen with 420nm 3000k
my grow here will determine if it's the red light from flowering bulbs or the violet those same bulbs give off that are truly beneficial

I have always wanted to play with the diffrent spectrums but never had the resources to do so. It will be intresting to see the end results.

The plants are looking nice, keep it up man.

I'm going to grow some morning glory, opium poppies and many more :D

I've got some salvia cuttings rooting now x2 and I've got 25 klip dagga seeds which of 14 have popped out of the soil after a week which is normal.

Oh and I've got some apple seedlings about 2 weeks old along with some cauliflower seedlings also 2 weeks old :D

Not under any artificial lighting but on my window sill soaking up not much sunlight at all but should be doing that in Mid March or April instead.

update

Put in a water heater with a bubble system to move the water so the heater works. An air tube is a few inches from the bottom of the PVC which brings water from the bottom to the top

the nutrient solution is at 72-75F perfecto. and yes they are flowering. next time i'll do 25 pepperoncinis. looks like this would hold 16 to 25 dwarf plants quite well
