Lockdowns didn't work.

Still no proof?

Oh, 5 thousand deaths per day in China despite having had the most stringent lockdowns for so long... How are those people dying if they were under lockdown so long?
It's a simple concept. A contagious disease is passed from an infected person unless you are claiming "immaculate infection". Not every one did what was asked.

Lockdowns were to slow the spread and essentially “buy time“ until a good vaccine came out. Hiding from the virus doesn’t make you immune. Turns out China’s vaccine isn’t very effective, and uptake has been poor, especially among the elderly. A lot of people simply don’t trust their government, and refused their shots. The Chinese government refused the mRNA vaccines from the west, out of sheer pride, and now they’re suffering from their decision. So now you have a large population with no established immunity to this, being hit by the most contagious wave of this that we’ve seen (so far), in densely populated areas, without the capacity to handle it, medically. It’s going to be a disaster. But no, blame the lockdowns. We all know how well arbitrary suggestions on paper work to prevent the actions of people in the real world...

Lockdowns worked when we had less infectious variants and masks still work, though less effectively as it's contagiousness increased with each new iteration. We never had lockdowns in the west, except for brief periods, just limits on gatherings and then mask mandates when they became available. The public health measures helped slow it down until medical treatments became better and then vaccines became available. One just needs to look at the difference in mortality rates between Canada and America to see the difference public policy makes. Once vaccines were distributed to those who wanted them, public health measures disappeared and we have a mix of new variants, boosters, natural immunity and antiviral medications.

Some governments went overboard on public health in Asia and China was just one among many, but the public health measures in China were misguided and their vaccines sucked while peoples "faith" in them and the government was low. The fiasco continues with poor policy and planning along with refusals of our help along the way.

Covid turned out to be a far more complex story than we thought, with it's many variants and steadily increasing contagion rate, lockdowns, public health measures and masks saved millions of lives while very effective vaccines were developed, tested and distributed. We were in unchartered territory and everybody was wrong about this pandemic is one way or another as evolution took it's twists and turns. In a few years we will probably have very effective vaccines, or at least research indicates this and try and keep up with the mutations with new boosters and antiviral medications.

Oh, lockdowns work but they are not practical for most.

I'm privileged in that I am in a situation where I can do most of my work from home and work in an environment where I can wear a mask at work without disrupting my ability to work. I don't go to restaurants to eat, I don't go to shows or travel, I don't do a lot of things I used to do.

Everybody I know has had Covid but I have not. My wife too. Both my sons have had it while away at college. It's a social disease as much as anything else.

This year, I'm going to open up and do some of the things I miss the most, the main one is work out at a health club. Others are going out for meals, movies, going diving with my dive club, rafting with my whitewater club and such. I'll begin in March after the current spike in infections go down. It's like waving the white flag. I expect I'll get it sometime thereafter. I'll stay current with vaccinations and wear a mask when practical but it's simply a numbers game. Frequency of exposure is directly proportional to the rate of infection.

I'm sure "asked" is proper for where I live related to lock downs. In Canada where I live I don't know of any Covid related mandates today. Your mileage may vary depending on where you live and the time in history you decide to live in.
everybody was wrong about this pandemic is one way or another

I think these statements might be a case of back peddling. Why not just admit you were in error?

Why not admit you still are?
I didn't lockdown, didn't mask up, despite being "ordered to" by people that think they own me.
Didn't get the jab. Didn't believe bogus PCR tests. Figured out at the beginning of it the covid agenda was about power, control and who makes money etc.

I'll admit I'm happy with my choices.

You, on the other hand, took Trump's advice and got jabbed repeatedly? I thought you knew better than to believe Trump?

Congrats on doing zero to help yourself or the people around you. My best friend chose the same path, and he’s dead, at 45 years young. This holiday was his young family’s first one without a dad. You can fight “the man”, but your fellow man isn’t the enemy, nor are they deserving of the collateral damage from your decisions. I still wear my mask, because my wife has cancer and Covid (and the rest of society) doesn’t care.

Just know that there are still a quite a few in society that sympathize with you and your wife's situation and still take precautions, both masking and vaccinations. I hope she kicks cancers ass! Keep sharing your story and hopefully even more people will see and realize the bigger picture. Stay positive, funk cancer!!

I mask. The thing that drives me is that with the mask, the chance is sharply reduced that I am in the contagion (transmission) chain of someone who dies or is left maimed by the little bastard.
