Lockdowns work.

Some problems with this idea include desperate people seeking work will deliberately infect themselves to get these essential jobs, especially if the government didn't offer financial support. Another issue is it creates two classes of citizen with different rights and privileges, it would be desirable to be among the immune. If the science says it will help it has to be considered and so does the actual behavior of societies and individuals. It might work inside organisations like businesses and hospitals and would be useful for some things in order to protect people, nursing homes could benefit greatly from something like this though.

Researchers say those recovered from SARS-CoV-2 can be a societal shield
The idea is to find those who have developed immunity and put them in essential jobs.

While many societies remain locked down in various forms of isolation and social distancing, there's a growing population for whom these measures may be irrelevant: those who have had a SARS-CoV-2 infection and cleared it. While we haven't yet ascertained these people's susceptibility to repeated infections, many clearly have antibodies to the virus, and we're finding that some antibodies seem to neutralize the virus. So, there's a reasonable chance that it's safe for these individuals to circulate more widely within the population.

A group of researchers largely based at Georgia Tech have looked at whether this population might be helpful for limiting further infections. The researchers used an epidemiological model to test what would happen if we started placing the formerly infected individuals in the key jobs that we've deemed essential for society to function during social isolation. The results suggest that this "shield immunity" is somewhat effective on its own and significantly enhances the impact of social isolation.

A fact is about to be painfully and fatally proven...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wisconsin's coronavirus figures continue to rise with more than 300 newly confirmed cases as citizens return to normality after a stay-at-home order was lifted across the state.

Its cumulative cases throughout the pandemic rose to 11,275, with 373 of those recorded on Thursday, the third-largest daily peak for the month. The freshly reported cases are of infections that predate the end of Wisconsin's lockdown.

The state had been under stay-at-home measures sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic, but the conditions were removed after the state Supreme Court ruled against them in a 4-3 decision this week.

Nope! The reason America fucked up the response is Donald Trump and he is almost a singular cause too.

Should The US Follow Sweden's Path To "Herd Immunity"?

Sweden gained global attention for taking a more relaxed approach to fighting the spread of the novel coronavirus. Its bars, restaurants, and gyms remained open in order to keep life as normal as possible. However, its death rate has been higher than many of its neighbors that employed lowdown measures. The US became a global hotspot for the pandemic despite using lockdowns. The unemployment rate is at the highest level since the Great Depression and many wonder if the US should have followed Sweden's lead instead.

I think it’s been pretty well established by the scientific community that the actions taken by the US government were too little, too late.
And anybody with eyes in their heads, except those blinded by fear and hate and that appears to be about 40%+ of them in America. Arseholes usually make up around 30% of most normal societies, tories in Canada for the most part! :D

I think it's been pretty well established that using "science" (math) it is impossible for people who do not have a right to lock people down, to delegate that nonexistent right to other people to impose a lockdown. Until this axiom is defeated, (it can't be) the basis of the authority to impose a "lockdown" is nil.

Hence, the idea that lockdowns "work" uses the same basis as chanting "rape works". Sure, from the rapist perspective it accomplishes the rapists goals, but that doesn't answer where the authority to lockdown or rape comes from.

Psssst listen friend - from mouse to ape - these humans are a dangerous species. It's better they lockdown themselves because of all the dangerous chaos they create when allowed to roam free. Have you seen the stats! So my fellow mice been gnawing holes worldwide and spreading silently that virus around - could you please send us more volunteers? (They're starting getting desperate with disinfection!)

I agree that THOSE humans are dangerous, but I'm hesitant to say that ALL humans are dangerous.

"Lockdowns work" as a blanket statement ignores the unintended consequences of the lockdown.

Failing to consider those consequences, is not scientific, it's political. Hence the claim that "lockdowns work" is like saying, "robbery works" . That may be true from the successful robber's perspective.

I generally buy generic bleach. I'm not one of those fancy "top shelf" Clorox drinkers!

I'd ratehr put them back to their normal jobs and what they've learned and can do good
An organised effort to get paid immune volunteers to work in nursing homes would be helpful IMHO, and it has advantages in hospitals. Useful inside organisations, but not as a general policy. For instance there are so many infected meat packing workers they have almost achieved herd immunity, unfortunately, immune workers could be used strategically to protect those who are vulnerable along with a host of other health and safety measures like PPE and spacing work flows out.

The old Bugs Bunny cartoon used to say will that be one lump or two, or perhaps three? Think of Donald as Bugs and his base as the Hillbillies

Social distancing in US drops significantly from height of COVID-19 pandemic, poll finds

WASHINGTON – More Americans are leaving their homes than at any point in weeks.

The number of Americans who say they are social distancing amid the nation's coronavirus pandemic – although still a majority – has dropped by 17 percentage points since late March as several states have ended stay-at-home orders, according to a new Gallup poll released Friday.

But the drop isn't just from individuals who live in states where they can now dine in restaurants, get haircuts at barbershops or visit parks. More people in states that still have stay-at-home restrictions are also no longer social distancing.

"It's certainly in those states," Jeffrey Jones, senior editor for the Gallup Poll, said of those that have reopened, "but it's also in the states that aren't loosening their restrictions as well."

More:Are lockdowns being relaxed in my state? Here's how America is reopening amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Fifty-eight percent of Americans said they are either completely (17%) or mostly (41%) isolating themselves, the poll found, down from a high of 75% who said they were between March 30 and April 4 and 68% who said they were April 20-26.

The steady decline returns the numbers back to the level before the majority of states implemented stay-at-home orders in March to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

The poll, conducted through interviews of 4,159 U.S. adults May 4-10, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

It comes as several states, including Texas, Florida and Georgia, have ended stay-at-home orders and started to reopen their economies. President Donald Trump has increasingly hinged his reelection hopes on reopening the nation's economy, including giving his blessing to protesters who demanded the end of their state's orders.

More:US coronavirus curve may be flattening, but estimated death toll keeps rising. What does this mean?

Of the 21 states that as of May 4 lacked stay-at-home orders, 51% of survey respondents said they were either completely or mostly self-isolating. That's down from 64% in these same states two weeks ago.
