People don't buy GM junk cars and the proof is other auto manufacturers are building new plants here. One in Detroit.

Not Trump's fault when you build junk and can't sell them or build what people aren't buying.

You think GM is about making cars that people want and are reliable. How adorable.

This is what GM is all about:

GM Announcement Confirms Tax Cuts Don’t Prevent, May Encourage Layoffs

They are money managers with the goal of making money for their investors. They took the tax cut and turned it into higher stock prices with share buy-backs.

GM’s most recent quarterly financial report reveals the company has saved more than $150 million so far this year due to last year’s corporate tax cuts. So the layoffs announcement may seem especially jarring to anyone who believed President Trump’s claim that his tax cuts would spur job creation—including the Ohio residents Trump told directly “don’t sell your homes” because lost auto-making jobs “are all coming back.” But for mainstream economists, GM’s latest announcement is confirmation of what they already knew: Successful corporations will always base their investment and job-creation decisions on market fundamentals and consumer demand, not on incremental tax giveaways.

There no fundamental reason why GM doesn't make cars that more people will buy. But that's not their objective. Their objective, like Trump's is to maximize the return to large investors. You are a dupe for supporting Trump.

Trump won't do what is clearly indicated if he wants to expand job growth -- take that tax give-away to wealthy people away and put the money into rebuilding the infrastructure of this nation. Also invest in developing green technology or other investments that actually will spur growth in jobs. Clearly, GM is saying it is not interested in growing it's sales in cars.

Capitalism folks... I don't believe that plant will sit idle for too long though.... US Car manufacturing is still a very viable and profitable option for a lot of companies that want to sell cars in the US...
It will sit idle.

Any new company will head to the non union/right to work areas and insist on 10 yrs. of tax breaks. Then they'll build a gov't subsidized plant they intend to run for 10 years, if the economy supports it that long.

Those corporate tax breaks are working great!

The Chevy Cruze is not popular in the US and it is not exportable as the S American market is already saturated with small Chevy cars: Spark, Sail, Beat, and Onix.

The base Cruze is more expensive than the Onix and isn't much better. For a few thousand more you can get a Chevy Tracker Crossover which is a more attractive option.
