looking for a growing teacher

I'm wondering if this is even a good idea. I'd like to find a grow partner or someone who can help me along the way to getting more success.

I know what you're saying, everything you need to know you can probably find on this forum, which is true, this forum is a wealth of information, yet I still feel as if I can benefit from someone being able to stand by my side and say hey, you should do this or this, etc.

This story has probably been heard a million times, but I spent a fair amount of money on the setup and I'm still running into trouble. I got through a single plant and a single harvest but for some reason, I feel as if the plant that made it had some kind of super strength and was forgiving of my screw ups. Also, it was about 4 weeks into it when I got it. Past the hard part.

I'm trying to do hydro. I never even tried soil. I'm to the point where I'm wondering if I should give soil a try although it would feel like a huge waste to turn back now.

Any advice? I understand the risks of trying to find a grow mentor so maybe this is a dead thread anyway, but I just don't want to continue to waste money on nutrients and equipment when I know the real problem is I'm just "not doing it right". The first grow went well and I was all gung ho about my second round, but discouragement is setting in...

Thanks

Bro, just post a grow journal and everyone will help!

F*** soil! Too many variables.

I've never done soil and probably never will unless it's legalized.

Y'know, that's what I've found, that everyone learns in their own preferred way. And that's how I got started in consulting. People prefer to have someone look at their op, and answer questions on-site, so I help MMJ patients here with their growing. Some just don't want to read on the net or a book, they would rather pay to be shown. Others just want some reassurance. Anyway, it's all good therapy.

Look around your area for notices on boards in hydro shops, or nurseries. Or check craigslist.

Soil is just fine to grow in... I don't think there is anything wrong with growing in soil whatsoever.

I've been reading as much as I can, but yes, I'm one of those people who learn best by example. It's not that I don't want to read, but I think there is definite benefit to having someone who knows what they're doing.

Check out this thread. I tried to explain my setup with pictures:

As you say, you understand the risks of trying to find a grow mentor, but in most areas it is illegal to germinate a cannabis seed. If a person was to stand by your side and show you how to growing cannabis, they will also be committing a crime. If your grow room was busted by cops, and you and the mentor were there, you both would be charged. In other words, a stranger isn't going to go round to your growroom and show you what to do.
Realisticly you're not going to see some advert about teaching cannabis growing. A joyrider doesn't look out for people who teach how to steal cars, they got to prison to learn how to do that.

I'm in a state that has some sanity around marijuana laws for patients, which I am one, but I still understand that what I'm asking is probably just a bad idea. It just sucks that because of these laws against personal freedom, growers can't congregate and share ideas and help less skillful people like myself.

thanks

Having read your post I wanted to give some options to you. Pot Roast is correct in that no one will really be able to help you with your grow because of the crazy stupid time you get if caught. If you have spent a fair amount of money then you should be very friendly with the local hydro shop personnel if not you missed a great chance to gather others thoughts and ideas on how to build and maintain your op. That being said I too started this endeavor in June and spent WAY more than I should have and today I still have some of the same fears that you do that something will go wrong and all my hard work will be ruined. On the flip side and it is one side that cannot be ignored is that I have spent an ENORMOUS amount of time here on this site learning and reading and asking questions when I could not find the answer..

Everyone here has different ways of doing the same thing and even if you had someone come into your grow and tell you to do it this way or that way you still have to buy into that in order for it to work for YOU!. You have to decide what is the best way.

Al B. Fuct for instance (I only use him as an example because he's mainly HYDRO which i am doing but has so much knowledge about this hobby ,that and he is most generous with his time makes him a great source. There are so many other people with different disciplines SOIL, INDOOR, OUTDOOR. AREOPONICS I am sure you could find some one to follow) has published MORE than enough content and information for any new grower to feel confidant to start and build and grow his own garden.

My advise would be to go to the 2 threads below and READ every post and spend about an hour a day lurking here reading what other people are doing and the questions they ask. You will be amazed at how much you will learn just from other people’s trials and tribulations and it does not have to be solely hydro to help yourself feel confidant in this hobby.

Doing it yourself will be much more rewarding than having someone else tell you how to do it.

Spend some quality time reading and researching and you WILL be rewarded!

Good luck

Sparky
