Looking for assistance with my first grow!

I am going to just say that this is my first grow. I did a soil grow with 18 plants a decade ago with success and just never dabbled again. Now I am back at it! I am having a few issues along the way and I was hoping that someone from this excellent forum could help me out, thanks in advance for any help!

Quick History: On 6/7/2015 I germinated 3 bag seeds. On 6/9/2015 I put all 3 bag seeds into a folgers container. I was curious to know how well they would grow only a few inches away from each other. Long story short on about day 12 I removed the other two because they were taking away from the large plants growth. I didn't want to surgically remove them because I could of potentially affected the large plants root growth. On 6/9/2015 I also decided to germinate more bag seeds; I know, I should of started all of them at once! On 6/10/2015 I had 3 sprouts in the Folgers container and 5 sprouts in individual plastic quart containers. At this point I was already using nutrients. (1 drop big grow, 3 drops big bloom, and a drop of molasses per 1 quart of water) I would load that nutrient solution into a spray bottle and spray them a few times a day alternating between flush water and nutrient solution. On 6/16/2015 I transplanted all of the bag seed plants into 3 gallon containers. Most of them seemed close to being root bound. On 6/16/2015 I also received 3x Northern Lights #5 / Haze hybridized seeds from Sensei Seeds. Once germinated on 6/17/2015 I planted them into 5 gallon Home Depot buckets. This will make the age of the bag seeds 19 days old. This will make the age of the Northern Lights seeds 11 days old. At this point I think I need to slow down on their water consumption. I have been watering each of them with roughly an eighth of a gallon per day and a majority of the time that has been with nutrient solution progressively getting stronger. I have no temperature or humidity gauge so I will be going to the store right this moment to purchase one this way I can give you guys that information as well. Once again, thanks for any help in advance! I would love to hear any thoughts, criticisms, or any kind of guidance!

Strain #1: Northern Lights #5 / Haze (Sensei Seeds)
Number of Plants: 3
Grow Type: Hydro? (I use soiless but I maintain the nutrients manually without a reservoir)
Grow Stage: Vegetative
Setup: Closet Grow
Light: 4 x T8 Fluorescent Tubes @ 32 Watts each
Nutrients: Fox Farms (Big Grow, Big Bloom) I have also used Molasses once per week!
Medium: Pro Mix BX
PPM: N/A (I have nothing that can test this at the moment)
PH: 6
RH: N/A
Room Temperature: N/A
Solution Temperature: Room Temp
Room Dimensions: 3.5 ft wide x 6 ft length x 8 ft height
Pests: I notice a fruit fly every now and then but I suspect they are harmless.

Strain #2: Bag Seed ("Mid")
Number of Plants: 6
Grow Type: Hydro? (I use soiless but I maintain the nutrients manually without a reservoir)
Grow Stage: Vegetative (Germinated on 6/9/2015)
Setup: Closet Grow

PROBLEM: There has been slight yellowing on the edges of a few plants. I trimmed off the really bad sections so no more energy was devoted to repair. My assumption was it was a Nitrogen deficiency so I increased Nitrogen intake. It progressed the slightest bit so after some research my assumption was that it was actually Nitrogen Toxicity. The leaves are also curling up on a few of the plants. I feel like over watering may have been an issue. I also had the light about 6-10 inches from most of the plants and I have moved it higher so it is roughly a 1.5 feet from the canopy.

are you using those ferts? does your soil come with fert in it already? the discoloration is most likely due to over fert. looks like you have too many plants in a small space.

They look healthy. Keep on doing what you doing.

Raising the light will just make them grow slower and stretch more.

Did you drill through the bottom of your home depot buckets for drainage before planting in them

The soil is not soil at all. It's Sphagnum Peat Moss, Vermiculite, Perlite, Dolomitic and Calcitic limestone, and finally Mycorrhizae. I have been using nutrients and I feel like I have been using too much as I moved up to using as much as stated on each bottle. I have read that you want to use about 50-75% of what the bottle tells you to use. THANK YOU for reminding me about the drainage in the HD buckets! (Doing that now. I feel so stupid!) I have not yet drilled any drainage into them however the 3 gallon buckets that the Bag Seeds are growing in all have drainage. Is 9 plants too many for that closet? Should I give them a day or two without water and feedings?

when people say soil in these forums, they usually mean potting soil, meaning the forest products like peat along with other things. 9 plants isn't too many... until they get bigger. Then you'll have a bit of a problem.

How many plants should I have in this closet? I see where you are getting at. Once they are bigger it will definitely become an issue. I was thinking at that point I would just bring in another fluorescent fixture as I will not have enough money for better flowering lighting. Will sticking to fluorescent for the whole grow make for a horrible grow?

sticking to fluorescent is the think to do. because of that small space, flouro will prevent them from growing much because it's so weak.

Do I need to downsize, regardless? Or should I wait for them to sex and then just get rid of males hoping that brings me down to the appropriate number for that closet.
