Looking for Bushy

I am finishing setup of the new tent and need to be efficient with the space. I am almost contemplating a vertical grow setup but would like to keep it simple.

I have seen some pics of tall, lanky plants and short bushy. I am shooting for that short and bushy. What is the biggest factor in this? Stain? Lights?

Obviously the higher the lights the farther up it will stretch to reach it. Would having the light source towards the middle like in a vertical room produce some outward growing?

much love :eyesmoke:

I found that neglecting to take care of your roots the first week or two of veg will get you short little bushes. I don't recommend it though.

Yea I was thinking that a short plant means unhappy roots. MEGAyield420 has some pretty good looking plants in his Vertical Grow, about the same height I am shooting for in this new area.

Cool temps, CFL kept an inch or two from plants will help keep them short and bushy.
Dont forget topping & maybe some torture!!

Nobody has bothered to mention that indica dominant genes tend to stay short and bushy while a sativa will grow long and lanky. Poor roots will give you small leaves and skinny stalks. You won't get short and bushy plants by neglecting them, just weaker plants. BendBrewer has some obviously indica dominant strains as indicated by the fat rounded leaf blades. Godzilla is a strain I've been growing lately and it stays perfectly short and with a little training gives me a decent yield (5-7 ounces with 1 month veg). Look for an indica.

Oh, and keep the lights as close as you can without burning them. Vegging under a blue spectrum bulb also helps, and if nothing works, Humboldts Own makes a product called Bushmaster which is designed to prevent plants from stretching upward.

Nice, thanks MMS. Yea I would love to produce 5 or so on a shorter plant. Other room had I/S so it still came out pretty lanky. I will have to look into some indica's.

exactly. most indica plants grow short/busy, especially if you keep the light close during the veg stage (w/out burning or frying the leaves of course). LA Confidental is a great short, bushy plant.
